3 - switching paths once more as this turned out to be a doc bug
4 in eumm. this should not affect anything though.
5
63.72 Wed Jul 31 19:44:18 CEST 2013
7 - install paths were wrong for current MakeMaker (reported
8 by various people).
9
103.71 Wed Jul 31 02:34:48 CEST 2013
11 - CPAN failed to parse the version number in 3.7, try to work
12 around.
13
143.7 Wed Jul 31 01:26:50 CEST 2013
15 - move pod to separate file, to further improve loading times.
16 - make it arch-specific, adding a test that warns when an old
17 version is still installed.
18 - due to a logic glitch, warnings were not enabled at all on 5.16.
19
203.6 Sun Jun 17 14:24:53 CEST 2012
21 - work around more 5.16 breakage - $^H doesn't work as nicely as
22 p5p make you to believe.
23 - add features: unicode_strings current_sub fc evalbytes.
24 - disable features: array_base.
25
263.5 Wed Mar 7 20:50:48 CET 2012
27 - localise $^W, as this causes warnings with 5.16 when some lost
28 soul uses -w. common::sense doesn't support $^W, but tries to
29 shield module authors and programs from its ill effects. If you
30 enable $^W, then you normally get to keep the pieces because you
31 change semantics of other people's code.
32
333.4 Fri Jan 14 07:17:16 CET 2011
34 - remove "regexp" category. this is rather painful as it's a large
35 class, but unfortunately, somebody thought emitting a warning when you
36 match more than 32kb of text is in some way useful, which spoils the whole
37 category.
38 - use META.json instead of META.yml - apparently YAML parsers don't actually
39 exist.
40
413.3 Fri Jul 2 22:40:14 CEST 2010
42 - removed "exiting" category - this is too useful to create new
43 control statements, and fails utterly with eval, as eval will
44 catch the (fatal) warning itself. Kind of hurts, but this is
45 just another warning category which is too broad and has to be
46 disabled fully because of a minority of issues.
47
483.2 Fri Apr 16 01:46:02 CEST 2010
49 - removed "substr" warning - while it overall is a good category,
50 "substr '', 2" is entirely sensible.
51
523.1 Sat Apr 3 04:56:36 CEST 2010
53 - removed "parenthesis" warning:
54 sysread $fh, my $buf, -s $fh; # ok
55 sysread $fh, my $buf, $size; # warning
56 Made no sense to me, especially as $size is in scope.
57 - no longer hardcode warning/struct bits, calculate them at
58 installation time, for when I will no longer be alive etc.
59 - tweaked documentation.
60
613.0 Tue Dec 15 03:24:28 CET 2009
62 - enable "use utf8" effect by default.
63 - removed "utf8" warning category. while this contains useful security
64 stuff, it also makes implementing security stuff almost impossible,
65 as it completely mangles perls internal utf8 encoding with actual
66 utf-8 encoding, and confuses "unicode", "string codepoints" and
67 "utf-8" so much that it becoems practically unusable.
68
692.03 Wed Dec 2 18:38:53 CET 2009
70 - removed "unopened" warning category, as this breaks "stat _", which
71 seems to be a bug in all perl versions (see perlbug #71002).
72 - some doc updates.
73
742.02 Wed Nov 4 12:04:08 CET 2009
75 - no functional changes.
76 - add META.yml clarification to the faq, tune the docs a bit
77 and add a "much reduced typing" section.
78 - unfortunately, the tone of the manpage has tightened and is
79 more serious in many parts now. We consider this a bug that we
80 plan to fix before 2100.
81
822.01 Mon Oct 5 17:01:48 CEST 2009
83 - add a FAQ section.
84 - use a more future-proof way to set the warning mask.
85
862.0 Tue Sep 1 20:28:25 CEST 2009
87 - codename "fatality", now with big doses of... fatality.
88 - enabled an enourmous number of warnings and made them FATAL,
89 as warned about in earlier releases. Of course we carefully
90 tested the new warnings against our modules, as mentioned
91 in the manpage, too.
92
931.0 Sat Aug 22 22:08:50 CEST 2009
94 - no functional changes.
95 - really, the first version of common sense!
96 - slightly improved documentation.
97 - forgot to include license.
98
990.04 Sun Aug 2 10:29:23 CEST 2009
100 - added "what others..." section.
101 - reinforce attempt at world domination.
2 102
