1504=== Commands ===
1505
1506There are many commands you can use to
1507do everything from movement to attacking
1508to casting spells to identifying treasure. Any
1509command in Crossfire can be executed by
1510typing ' (a single quote) followed by the
1511command.
1512
1513So to move southeast, for example, you could type
1514B<'southeast>. To read this sign, you could type
1515B<'apply sign>. These "long-form" commands are
1516always available for everything you can do in
1517the game.
1518
1519However, it would be cumbersome to type
1520commands like that for common actions, so
1521many commands are bound to keys by default.
1522This varies from client to client, but you will
1523probably find that the movement commands
1524are bound to the arrow keys on your keypad,
1525for example. There are many other default
1526keybindings, and you can create your own for
1527any action or series of actions that you use
1528regularly.
1529
1530In CFPlus (the recommended client) you can also enter commands by typing their initials. For example,
1531instead of typing B<'southeast>, you can type B<se> (note the lack of the '). Instead of typing
1532B<'cast summon pet monster> you can usually type B<cspm> and so on.
1533
1534See the documentation for your Crossfire client for more information on
1535keybindings.

1551=== Movement ===
1552
1553You can move in any of eight directions: north,
1554south, east, west, and the four in between.
1555Pressing a movement key once (or executing a
1556movement command) will move you one tile
1557in that direction. If something is in the way, you
1558may attack it.
1559
1560To run in a direction, which is very useful when
1561fighting, battering down doors, or traveling long
1562distances, hold down the B<Ctrl> key and press
1563and hold the key for direction you wish to run.
1564
1565Most clients have bound the four primary directions to the arrow/cursor keys,
1566and all eight directions including diagonals on the numeric keypad.
1567
1568Now run to the end of this hallway (B<Ctrl-Right>), and read
1569the sign there.

1605Chests and other containers are often protected by traps.
1606To find and disarm these traps, stand on the chest or next to it while
1607using the find traps and disarm traps skills.
1608
1609Once you think a chest is safe, open it by applying it with the space bar,
1610and see what's inside.
1611
1612Sometimes you won't be able to find a trap, or it will be triggered when you try to disarm it.
1613That's just the risk you take in the pursuit of treasure! If you get hurt by a trap, let yourself
1614heal before you move on, in case you walk into another one.

1506There are many commands you can use to

1509command in Deliantra can be executed by
1510simply typing it in and pressing B<Space>+B<Return>.

1524Instead of typing B<cast summon pet monster> you can usually type B<cspm> and so on.
1525
1526You can also create your own keybindings, for example to use spells, items or skills. To do that, you
1527can usually use the popup menu you get when pressing the B<right mouse button> over an item
1528and select the B<bind ...> option.

1548Pressing a movement key once (or executing a

1551character might attack it.
1552
1553To run in a direction, which is very useful when
1554fighting, battering down doors, or traveling long
1555distances, hold down the B<Ctrl> key and press
1556and hold the key for direction you wish to run.
1557
1558The four primary directions are bound to the arrow/cursor keys,

1664=== Talking to People ===
1665
1666There are two different types of "people" in the game: PCs (player characters, i.e. other players)
1667and NPCs (non-player-characters, your typical dumb computer-automated pseudo persons :)
1668
1669To talk to other players, for example to get help, you can use the B<chat> command, whose text
1670is displayed in the B<Chat> tab. All players currently logged in can see that. You can simply type
1671B<c some message>+<return> to chat with others without activating the Chat tab. There is also the B<shout>
1672command (short "sh") for use in emergencies, and B<say> (short "s") which all players on a map and all
1673NPCs near you can hear.
1674
1675You can also get information from non-player characters (NPCs) in the game by talking to them.
1676NPCs that can talk to you have a little speech bubble sign in the upper left corner of their map space.
1677
1678To talk to the man at the end of this hallway when you're finished reading this,
1679walk up next to him and left-click on him with your mouse.
1680
1681Clicking on NPCs lets you use a dialog window to communicate with the NPC. The say
1682command is more tedious, but works when you can't see the NPC, or you need to say a password.
1683
1684Many NPC have useful information, but they will only tell you about it if you ask the
1685right questions. If the NPC talks to you, look for words in his reply
1686that might be important (often they are underlined), and ask about them.
1687For example, if he says, "Hello, do you have any food?" ask him about food,
1688and he may say something else in response to that.
1689Saying words like quest, key, treasure, and other things you're interested in may
1690start up very interesting conversations!
1691
1692Be careful not to run into friendly NPCs: dead men tell no tales.
1693
1694Now go talk to that old man.
1695
1696If you run into problems or want to skip this part of the tutorial, use the B<say open> command.
