1512=== Commands ===
1513
1514There are many commands you can use to
1515do everything from movement to attacking
1516to casting spells to identifying treasure. Any
1517command in Crossfire can be executed by
1518typing ' (a single quote) followed by the
1519command.
1520
1521So to move southeast, for example, you could type
1522B<'southeast>. To read this sign, you could type
1523B<'apply sign>. These "long-form" commands are
1524always available for everything you can do in
1525the game.
1526
1527However, it would be cumbersome to type
1528commands like that for common actions, so
1529many commands are bound to keys by default.
1530This varies from client to client, but you will
1531probably find that the movement commands
1532are bound to the arrow keys on your keypad,
1533for example. There are many other default
1534keybindings, and you can create your own for
1535any action or series of actions that you use
1536regularly.
1537
1538In CFPlus (the recommended client) you can also enter commands by typing their initials. For example,
1539instead of typing B<'southeast>, you can type B<se> (note the lack of the '). Instead of typing
1540B<'cast summon pet monster> you can usually type B<cspm> and so on.
1541
1542See the documentation for your Crossfire client for more information on
1543keybindings.

1559=== Movement ===
1560
1561You can move in any of eight directions: north,
1562south, east, west, and the four in between.
1563Pressing a movement key once (or executing a
1564movement command) will move you one tile
1565in that direction. If something is in the way, you
1566may attack it.
1567
1568To run in a direction, which is very useful when
1569fighting, battering down doors, or traveling long
1570distances, hold down the B<Ctrl> key and press
1571and hold the key for direction you wish to run.
1572
1573Most clients have bound the four primary directions to the arrow/cursor keys,
1574and all eight directions including diagonals on the numeric keypad.
1575
1576Now run to the end of this hallway (B<Ctrl-Right>), and read
1577the sign there.

1613Chests and other containers are often protected by traps.
1614To find and disarm these traps, stand on the chest or next to it while
1615using the find traps and disarm traps skills.
1616
1617Once you think a chest is safe, open it by applying it with the space bar,
1618and see what's inside.
1619
1620Sometimes you won't be able to find a trap, or it will be triggered when you try to disarm it.
1621That's just the risk you take in the pursuit of treasure! If you get hurt by a trap, let yourself
1622heal before you move on, in case you walk into another one.

1505=== Commands ===
1506
1507There are many commands you can use to
1508do everything from movement to attacking
1509to casting spells to identifying treasure. Any
1510command in Deliantra can be executed by
1511simply typing it in and pressing B<Space>+B<Return>.
1512
1513So to move southeast, for example, you could type
1514B<< southeast <return> >>. To read this sign, you could type
1515B<< apply sign <return> >>. These "long-form" commands are
1516always available for everything you can do in
1517the game.
1518
1519However, it would be cumbersome to type
1520commands like that for common actions, so
1521many commands are bound to keys by default.
1522
1523You can also enter commands by typing their initials. For example,
1524instead of typing B<< southeast <return> >>, you can type B<< se<return> >> (note the lack of the space).
1525Instead of typing B<cast summon pet monster> you can usually type B<cspm> and so on.
1526
1527You can also create your own keybindings, for example to use spells, items or skills. To do that, you
1528can usually use the popup menu you get when pressing the B<right mouse button> over an item
1529and select the B<bind ...> option.

1546
1547You can move in any of eight directions: north,
1548south, east, west, and the four in between.
1549Pressing a movement key once (or executing a
1550movement command) will move you one tile
1551in that direction. If something is in the way, your
1552character might attack it.
1553
1554To run in a direction, which is very useful when
1555fighting, battering down doors, or traveling long
1556distances, hold down the B<Ctrl> key and press
1557and hold the key for direction you wish to run.
1558
1559The four primary directions are bound to the arrow/cursor keys,
1560and all eight directions including diagonals on the numeric keypad. For laptop users
1561without numeric keypads you can also use B<Alt>-arrow key to get a diagonal movement.
1562
1563Now run to the end of this hallway (by pressing and holding B<Ctrl-Right-Arrow>), and read
1564the sign there.

1604Once you think a chest is safe, open it by applying it with the space bar,

1607Sometimes you won't be able to find a trap, or it will be triggered when you try to disarm it.

1666
1667There are two different types of "people" in the game: PCs (player characters, i.e. other players)
1668and NPCs (non-player-characters, your typical dumb computer-automated pseudo persons :)
1669
1670To talk to other players, for example to get help, you can use the B<chat> command, whose text
1671is displayed in the B<Chat> tab. All players currently logged in can see that. You can simply type
1672B<c some message>+<return> to chat with others without activating the Chat tab. There is also the B<shout>
1673command (short "sh") for use in emergencies, and B<say> (short "s") which all players on a map and all
1674NPCs near you can hear.
1675
1676You can also get information from non-player characters (NPCs) in the game by talking to them.
1677NPCs that can talk to you have a little speech bubble sign in the upper left corner of their map space.
1678
1679To talk to the man at the end of this hallway when you're finished reading this,
1680walk up next to him and left-click on him with your mouse.
1681
1682Clicking on NPCs lets you use a dialog window to communicate with the NPC. The say
1683command is more tedious, but works when you can't see the NPC, or you need to say a password.
1684
1685Many NPC have useful information, but they will only tell you about it if you ask the
1686right questions. If the NPC talks to you, look for words in his reply
1687that might be important (often they are underlined), and ask about them.
1688For example, if he says, "Hello, do you have any food?" ask him about food,
1689and he may say something else in response to that.
1690Saying words like quest, key, treasure, and other things you're interested in may
1691start up very interesting conversations!
1692
1693Be careful not to run into friendly NPCs: dead men tell no tales.
1694
1695Now go talk to that old man.
