52https://github.com/exg/rxvt-unicode/commit/1eb2c326cb88ee7bae01e995a16829746bfe374e
539.31 Mon 02 Jan 2023 18:13:16 CET
54 - implement a fix for CVE-2022-4170 (reported and analyzed by David Leadbeater).
55 While present in version 9.30, it should not be exploitable. It is exploitable
56 in versions 9.25 and 9.26, at least, and allows anybody controlling output to
57 the terminal to execute arbitrary code in the urxvt process.
58 - the background extension no longer requires off focus fading support
59 to be compiled in.
60 - the confirm-paste extension now offers a choice between pasting the original
61 or a sanitized version, and also frees up memory used to store the paste text
62 immediately.
63 - fix compiling without frills.
64 - fix rewrapMode: never.
65 - fix regression that caused urxvt to no longer emit responses
66 to OSC color queries other than OSC 4 ones.
67 - fix regression that caused urxvt to no longer process OSC 705.
68 - restore CENTURY to be 1900 to "improve" year parsing in urclock (or at
69 least go back to the old interpretation) (based on an analysis
70 by Tommy Pettersson).
71 - exec_async (used e.g. by the matcher extension to spawn processes) now
72 sets the URXVT_EXT_WINDOWID variable to the window id of the terminal.
73 - implement -fps option/refreshRate resource to change the default 60 Hz
74 maximum refresh limiter. I always wanted an fps option, but had to
75 wait for a user requesting it.
76 - new clickthrough extension.
77 - perl now also requires Xext.
78 - X region and shape extension functionality has been exposed to perl
79 extensions.
80 - RENDER extension no longer depends on ENABLE_XIM_ONTHESPOT.
81
829.30 Sat 27 Nov 2021 21:07:09 CET
83 - the background extension did not initialise properly when automatically
84 loaded via the OSC.
85 - new "on_attach" hook type implemented, to initialise late-loading
86 extensions.
87
889.29 Mon 22 Nov 2021 18:07:14 CET
89 - libptytty (http://dist.schmorp.de/libptytty/) is now a required
90 external dependency.
91 - enable confirm-paste extension by default, can be disabled by e.g.
92 URxvt.perl-ext: -confirm-paste
93 - Key bindings specified with the -keysym option or with resources of
94 the form URxvt*keysym work again. Such resources, as opposed to
95 resources of the form URxvt.keysym, were not officially allowed but
96 accepted, so ignoring them is considered a regression.
97 - new option/resource -rm/rewrapMode, which sets the line rewrap
98 mode to auto, never or always.
99 - new option/resource -dpb/disablePasteBrackets, which can be used to
100 disable bracketed paste mode sequences, as more and more programs
101 abuse these sequences (typically in the name of security, but these
102 sequences are not improving security). Also, bracketed paste mode
103 is now under frills.
104 - add manpage for urclock.
105 - confirm-paste wrongly considered brackets as ctrlchars (patch by
106 Jakub Wilk, debian bug #995244).
107 - if urxvt cannot detect a good estimate for font width (because a font does
108 not contain latin characters at all for example), it will now fall
109 back to xft's max_advance_width, which works well with some fonts. It
110 currently will warn about this.
111 - do not render variation selectors in the default font as boxes, treat
112 them as zero-width characters.
113 - change combining character architecture to allow fonts to handle
114 combining sequences on their own. This could allow future renderers
115 to be more intelligent about these sequences.
116 - use the previous enhancement to allow unicode characters outside of the
117 BMP to be rendered even without --enable-unicode3, as long as an
118 xft with the character is configured.
119 It's recommended to stay with disabled unicode3 even more now.
120 - freetype/xft have been verified to return nonsensical offsets for
121 combining characters. urxvt tries to compensate to some extent,
122 but diacritics will be slightly off in many cases, and far off in
123 some cases (e.g. input mono).
124 - when checking for overlap/careful handling, take non-basefont
125 character shifts into account.
126 - extensions can now request autoloading on OSC and Perl OSC sequences,
127 implement this for the background, clipboard-osc and overlay-osc
128 extensions.
129 - the background extension will now be autoloaded when the OSC 20 or 705
130 sequence is received.
131 - added OSC 776 sequence to return character cell width, height and font
132 ascent, which is useful when using urxvt as slave to calculate window
133 size form or to row/column count.
134 - matcher extension documentation now points out some requirements for
135 regular expressions. the default url matching regex will now try
136 to match IRLs in addition to URLs.
137 - The view_start perl method now scrolls to the bottom also when the
138 argument is greater than 0.
139 - eval scroll actions now scroll to the bottom when scrolling down and
140 there are less lines to scroll than the ones requested (reported by
141 Stephen Talley).
142 - allow perl-ext and perl-ext-common to override autoloaded extensions.
143 this allows tabbed to disable itself in subtabs, avoiding recursive
144 loading.
145 - update precompose table to unicode 13.0.
146 - update charset conversion tables to perl 5.32 (this only affected
147 cs_koi8_u_from_unicode).
148 - unicode characters > 0x100000 were not handled correctly w.r.t.
149 font rendering.
150 - replace bitstream vera by dejavu sans, as it has replaced the former
151 almost everywhere.
152 - urxvt will now try tic -x first and only fall back to tic without -x
153 when tic -x fails.
154 - fix urclock not erasing the old date on the clock face, causing
155 overdraw, plus a host of other small fixes and improvements.
156 - shave off over 1K of code size from urclock by replacing the sine table
157 with a slightly less accurate fixed point approximation.
158 - do not specify indentation with =over in pod, this is no longer
159 needed with semi-modern pod tools and gives the formatter more
160 stylistic freedom.
161 - background extension did not set the "size-sensitive" flag
162 when repeat mode wasn't normal.
163 - extensions are now subjected to "use strict 'subs'".
164 - avoid crashing when xft successfully opens a font but then somehow
165 can't lock the face.
166 - locale_decode/encode api methods now pass through undef unchanged.
167 - fix undefined behaviour in the perl hook function, as diagnosed by clang.
168
1699.26 Fri May 14 19:14:14 CEST 2021
170 - ev_iouring.c was wrongly required during compilation, and wrongly
171 not packaged.
172
1739.25 Fri May 14 15:51:36 CEST 2021
174 - for the 17.5th anniversary, and because many distributions seem to
175 remove rxvt in favour of urxvt, this release resurrects rclock as
176 urclock.
177 - add support for systemd socket-based activation - debian bug #917105,
178 freebsd bug #234276.
179 - do not destruct perl on exit anymore: this might fail for a variety of
180 reasons, and takes unnecessary time.
181 - remove any macros from urxvtperl manpage(s), should fix debian
182 bug 858385.
183 - the old bg image resources are now provided by the background
184 extension, and perl is thus required for bg image support. No
185 configuration change is needed: urxvt autoloads the background
186 ext if any bg image resource/option is present (for OSC sequences to
187 work you need to enable it explicitly). The old bg image
188 resources are also now deprecated; users are encouraged to
189 switch to the new bg image interface (see man urxvt-background).
190 - confirm-paste now checks for any ctlchars, not just newlines.
191 - searchable scrollback will now ignore bracketed paste mode sequences
192 (prompted by Daniel Gröber's patch).
193 - drop ISO 2022 locale support. ISO 2022 encodings are not supported in
194 POSIX locales and clash with vt100 charset emulation (the luit
195 program can be used as a substitute).
196 - perl didn't parse rgba colours specified as an array correctly,
197 only allowing 0 and 100% intensity for each component (this affected
198 fill and tint).
199 - when iterating over resources, urxvt will now try to properly handle
200 multipart resources (such as "*background.expr"), for the benefit
201 of autoloading perl extensions.
202 - ESC G (query rxvt graphics mode) has been disabled due to security
203 implications. The rxvt graphics mode was removed in rxvt-unicode 1.5,
204 and no programs relying on being able to query the mode are known.
205 - work around API change breakage in perl 5.28, based on a patch by
206 Roman Bogorodskiy.
207 - improved security: rob nation's (obsolete) graphics mode queries
208 no longer reply with linefeed in secure/default mode.
209 - ISO 8613-3 direct colour SGR sequences (patch by Fengguang Wu).
210 - xterm focus reporting mode (patch by Daniel Hahler).
211 - xterm SGR mouse mode.
212 - implement DECRQM. Patch by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
213 - add missing color index parameter to OSC 4 response. Patch
214 by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
215 - in some window managers, if smart resize was enabled, urxvt
216 erroneously moved the window on font change - awesome bug
217 #532, arch linux bug ##34807 (patch by Uli Schlachter).
218 - fix urxvtd crash when using a background expression.
219 - properly restore colors when using fading and reverse video
220 is enabled while urxvt is focused and then disabled while it
221 is not focused, or vice versa (patch by Daniel Hahler).
222 - fix high memory usage when an extension repeatedly hides and
223 shows an overlay (reported by Marcel Lautenbach).
224 - expose priv_modes member and constants to perl extensions
225 (patch by Rastislav Barlik).
226 - fix a whole slew of const sillyness, unfortunately forced upon
227 us by ISO C++.
228 - update to libecb 0x00010006.
229 - disable all thread support in ecb.h as we presumably don't need it.
230 - slightly improve Makefile source dependencies.
231 - work around bugs in newer Pod::Xhtml versions (flags incorrect formatting codes
232 in xhtml/html sections but does not interpret correct ones).
233
2349.22 Sat Jan 23 21:07:33 CET 2016
235 - NOTICE: this release updates terminfo.
236 - add terminfo capabilities for various ctrl and shift-ctrl key variants
237 (patch by Sebastian Schmidt).
238 - fix longstanding core font encoding bug where some character
239 ranges could not be mapped from unicode to the font: affected
240 encodings are big5, gb2312, iso8859-8 (hebrew), jis0201 and
241 ksc5601 (reported by Mikachu).
242 - fix crash when the number of columns is 1 and a 0 width character is inserted
243 (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
244 - fix a crash when parsing an invalid color specification (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
245 - fix a buffer overflow in font name parser (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
246 - do not start blinking cursor if the window is unfocused (reported by
247 Devin J. Pohly).
248 - change the width of underline and i-beam cursor to 2 pixels (based on
249 a patch by Omar Sandoval).
250 - add pointerShape resource to change the mouse pointer shape
251 (based on a patch by Brian Watson).
252 - a keysym resource for a key which is already bound to an
253 action now properly rebinds the key.
254 - do not report mouse motion events if Shift is active (patch by Daniel Hahler).
255 - put the alpha component last in responses to OSC color queries
256 (patch by Benjamin Herr).
257 - the key_press hook is now invoked before processing the
258 event, as documented. This change was done in 9.21 but not
259 announced and fixes debian bugs #511377, #531751 and red hat
260 bug #1105069. Note that this change breaks a few scripts,
261 such as mark-yank-urls, which rely on the previous buggy
262 behaviour that urxvt processes the event (in particular
263 keysym bindings) before invoking the hook.
264 - the tabbed extension now properly refreshes the active tab
265 on a key press when the mouse pointer is outside the terminal
266 window.
267 - add 'lookup_keysym' perl method to lookup the action bound
268 to a key combination.
269 - a key combination bound to 'matcher:select' can now be used
270 to cycle through the matches in matcher.
271 - change perl integer accessors (->width et al.) into mutators.
272 - this version has been verified to work with perl 5.8.3.
273
2749.21 Wed Dec 31 14:50:03 CET 2014
275 - the "moa redraw 8-bit british vintage colour management" release.
276 - NOTICE: this release updates terminfo.
277 - fix pixel droppings on overdraw when a secondary core font has the
278 same height but different ascent.
279 - implement cvvis in terminfo as blinking cursor, to distinguish it
280 from cnorm (emacs uses cvvis which is commonly a blinking cursor).
281 - when xft support was compiled in, colour queries erroneously returned
282 premultiplied values, this also affected internal queries, for example
283 when calculating faded colour. alpha is now divided out when possible,
284 which is more correct but loses colour resolution.
285 - add DECSCUSR xterm extension to set the cursor to a vertical bar.
286 - add 'extension:string' action, and associated on_action perl
287 hook, for keysym resources that invokes actions provided by
288 perl extensions. The 'perl:string' action and
289 on_user_command hook are deprecated but still supported.
290 - add 'builtin-string' action for keysym resources that restores string
291 mappings for keys that have predefined actions in urxvt.
292 - add -k option to urxvtc for killing the daemon process.
293 - document urxvtd's -e/--eval option that was implemented in 9.16,
294 but not documented.
295 - add -dockapp option to make the wm treat urxvt as a dockapp.
296 - add -mc option and multiClickTime resource to set the maximum time
297 between multi-click select events (patch by Joe Peterson).
298 - new 'eval' extension to evaluate arbitrary perl code with keysym
299 bindings. The extension also provides methods that implement basic
300 actions, such as pasting selections and scrolling.
301 - the macosx-clipboard and macosx-clipboard-native extensions have been removed.
302 - kuake extension now uses the kuake.hotkey resource to specify the hotkey.
303 - new 'matcher:select' mode of matcher to iterate over the matches with the keyboard.
304 - the 'matcher:list' feature of matcher now honours the launcher
305 associated to a matched pattern.
306 - speed-up matcher underlining on very long lines (reported by Edward Z. Yang).
307 - fix up/down commands of searchable-scrollback so that they always move
308 to the previous/next logical line with a match, if any.
309 - searchable-scrollback resource has been deprecated (use keysym instead).
310 - extension parameter passing is deprecated (use resource mechanism instead).
311 - upgrade to GPLv3 (see COPYING).
312 - compile out of the box on Solaris 10, again.
313 - fix height and position of the stippled area in next scrollbar (patch
314 by Thomas Otto).
315 - fix off-by-one bug causing the iso14755 window not to jump out of the
316 way properly.
317 - fix crash that may happen if a lib to which urxvt is linked to calls setenv.
318 - fix memory leak in special_{encode,decode} perl methods.
319 - fix refresh bug that occurs when reverse video is set on a cell
320 containing a space and with the same bg and fg colour, red hat bug
321 #830236.
322 - fix crash that may happen if an x error is received after a terminal
323 window/popup has been destroyed already.
324 - removed superfluous 0 digit from sgr terminfo sequence.
325 - greatly improve colour allocation on colour-starved pseudocolour
326 displays to avoid read-write cells instead of simply failing
327 (this is only relevant for antique 8bpp frame buffers).
328 - do not free fade colours when not doing fading (this is likely
329 only relevant for antique 8bpp frame buffers).
330 - do not specialcase 2 or 4 colour visuals, leading to
331 simpler and actually more correct code.
332 - hopefully no longer leak colours on !truecolour visuals.
333 - use consistent method names (scr_recolour => scr_recolor).
334 - use simpler (but slightly less bogus) formula for nearest
335 colour choice (this is likely only relevant for antique 8bpp
336 frame buffers).
337 - remove fallback behaviour when initialising colours - the
338 behaviour was inconsistent between startup vs. later and
339 was only effective when valid colours couldn't be allocated.
340
3419.20 Sat Apr 26 16:22:27 CEST 2014
342 - (libptytty) fix bug that prevented urxvtd from writing utmp
343 entries when using --fork (reported by Ryan Kavanagh).
344 - security bugfix: window property values could be queried even
345 in secure mode (reported by Conor McCarthy).
346 - fix build when perl is enabled and fading is disabled.
347 - fix regression that broke continuous scrolling when pressing
348 and holding the scrollbar up or down button, gentoo bug #493992.
349 - increase the maximum length of a command sequence to 32k bytes,
350 to allow longer OSC sequences (previous limit was 2k).
351 - new Ctrl-Meta-c and Ctrl-Meta-v bindings to interact with
352 the CLIPBOARD selection.
353 - new extension: selection-to-clipboard.
354 - the extensions macosx-clipboard and macosx-clipboard-native
355 are deprecated and will be removed in the next release.
356 Support for the clipboard on OS X can be more generally
357 enabled by setting the XQuartz preference to sync the OS X
358 pasteboard and the X11 clipboard.
359
3609.19 Sun Oct 27 17:16:07 CET 2013
361 - work around perl 5.18.0 breakage in tabbed extension
362 (reported by Karol Blazewicz) and in pod (Dominic Hargreaves).
363 - fix regression that caused the double-click word selection to
364 erroneously include a tab on the left of the selected word.
365 - implement FOCUS variable and focus_fade function in background
366 expression, to allow focus-sensitive background images.
367 - add support for the set cursor style (DECSCUSR) control
368 function.
369 - honour cursorColor also when the cursor style is underline.
370 - export some Color_xxx constants to Perl.
371
3729.18 Sun Mar 24 15:33:35 CET 2013
373 - fix regression that caused artifacts on resize.
374
3759.17 Fri Mar 1 13:46:08 CET 2013
376 - add shade operator in background perl extension.
377 - avoid starting or ending the selection in the middle of wide
378 characters to avoid artifacts (reported by Tiago Resende).
379 - fix artifacts that may occur if the character in the cursor
380 cell has width > 1 (reported by Tiago Resende).
381 - fix regression that causes artifacts on scrolling if
382 saveLines is 0 and the window is resized (reported by Bert
383 Münnich).
384 - fix build when perl is enabled and pixbuf and transparency
385 are disabled.
386
3879.16 Thu Dec 27 11:56:43 CET 2012
388 - the "so much new stuff your eyes will pop out" release.
389 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: renamed urlLauncher resource to url-launcher.
390 - fix processing of DEC private mode save sequences (patch by Patrick
391 Hemmer).
392 - perl extensions now have their own manpages, installed as urxvt-NAME(1),
393 e.g. urxvt-background(1) - see urxvt-extensions(1) for a list.
394 - fix disabling of cursor blink with the option-popup menu (based on a
395 patch by Jan Larres).
396 - the font height is not augmented anymore when lineSpace is non zero.
397 - fix "new pagemap" vs. "delete pagemap" mismatch ([] vs. non-[]),
398 as diagnosed by clang.
399 - fix height mismatch between active and inactive cursor when
400 lineSpace is non zero (patch by Stanislav Seletskiy).
401 - make it compile with LOCAL_X_IS_UNIX again (reported by
402 nickfailure@gmail.com).
403 - completely redone background pixmap support - users can now
404 specify arbitrary expressions (And programs) that calculate
405 new terminal backgrounds. see the urxvt-background manpage
406 for details.
407 - xrender is now required for background pixmap support.
408 - perl extensions can now provide commandline switches and resources
409 which show up in -help etc.
410 - iso14755 51 mode window now displays row and column.
411 - implement a -visual switch and move that and -depth to frills, also
412 warn when we can't get the requested visual.
413 - new env variable: RXVT_PERL_LIB.
414 - allocate all screen memory in one go and let the virtual memory
415 subsystem sort it out. this simplifies code, improves access
416 locality, saves a bit of ram and makes things a bit faster, too.
417 - remove support for libafterimage.
418 - update to CVS version of libev, for a whopping 11kb size decrease.
419 - do not ship yet another copy of ecb.h, use the one in libev or
420 libptytty instead.
421 - selectively mark some methods as cache-hot/cache cold, which
422 might speed up execution but definitely decreases codesize.
423 - Fix regression that prevented the scrollbar trough color
424 from being applied (reported by Derek B. Noonburg).
425 - Fix the scrollbar size for rxvt style (patch by Mark Robinson).
426
4279.15 Sat Jan 21 13:36:56 CET 2012
428 - remove "using namespace std" because clang erroneously
429 thinks thats an error.
430 - finding a matching font (e.g. bold version of the base font)
431 was broken (reported by Eamon Walker).
432 - fix parsing of bg image styles. They really work now.
433 - fix blurring of bg image borders when using xrender.
434 - fix xrender blur on common xrender implementations that do
435 not behave correctly when the same pixmap is used as source
436 and destination in composite operations.
437 - fix regression that caused tabbed to compute the wrong size
438 for tabs.
439 - allow again an empty suffix in a keysym list spec (patch by
