174.8 Tue Jan 18 02:23:57 CET 2005
18 - added a patch by WU Fengguang that makes the keyboard
19 highly configurable (e.g. locale changes, custom escape
20 sequences, and more). See keysym resource in rxvt(1).
21 - remove default key sequence for unknown keys again, as this
22 can be achieved by customizing the keyboard now.
23 - fix some freeing problems when destroying the rxvt_display,
24 resulting in segfaults.
25 - don't crash when the saved cursor position doesn't fit on the
26 screen (wrong assert in original rxvt, reported by ikaro).
27 - fix signed/unsigned bugs on wc<->mb conversions.
28 - reset slipwheel scrolling speed when reaching the top or bottom
29 (Mikael Magnusson).
30 - for core fonts, use ascent + descent when a font is loaded,
31 and PIXEL_SIZE when not. when loading a font, iterate until a
32 font has been found that _really_ fits the height (reported and
33 tested by Roch).
34 - set IUTF8 input flag, when defined (linux-2.6.5+).
35 - only define _XOPEN_SOURCE on solaris.
36 - autogenerate src/* dependency list.
37 - fixed linespace option, which ought to work now (and is dependent
38 on frills, not on it's own configure option).
39 - include pty.h, if available (cygwin).
40 - removed W11 directory from dist, it wasn't used anyway.
41 - initialize the locale much earlier.
42 - fixed two tiny per-instance memory leaks.
43
444.7 Wed Dec 29 20:54:24 CET 2004
45 - fix a bug in the event logic that could cause the temrinal to be
46 black on initial startup.
47 - do NOT call XCloseIM, ever. This causes way to many crashes due to
48 races in the protocol and within Xlib.
49 - map iso-left-tab to the same sequence as shift-tab.
50 - generate a unique escape sequence for many unknown keys, such as
51 additional multimedia keys.
52 - mask out high (non-unicode) bits on wide characters, to cope with
53 implementations that store tag info in the high bits.
54
554.6 Thu Dec 16 07:54:23 CET 2004
56 - try very hard not to exhaust the kernel tty buffers, even
57 if it slows down large pastes and is only cosmetic.
58 - streamline atom and xft color allocation to reduce startup
59 time (12.8s -> 7.8s on my dsl). Still, doing it with only 2-3
60 turnarounds would be much faster, but impossible to implement(?).
61 - implement underlineColor resource when ENABLE_FRILLS.
62 - iom left it's signal pipe handle open in the child
63 process. Fortunately not security-relevant as the pipe data gets
64 ignored.
65 - do not use XSETROOTPMAP_ID anymore, support ESETROOT_PMAP_ID
66 instead.
67 - fix a crash in rxvtd when the last window was being closed
68 (reported by hednod).
69 - fix an unlikely memory leak.
70 - fix atom name enumeration.
71
724.5 Mon Dec 13 07:47:16 CET 2004
73 - fix an extremely nasty bug in utf8-conversion. upgrade is advised.
74 - completely re-wrote selection pasting. This should fix garbled
75 incomplete characters at 32k boundaries and too-short INCR
76 selections, and more. Increases memory requirements considerably
77 for large selections, but that seems unavoidable.
78
794.4 Sun Dec 12 22:10:06 CET 2004
80 - rewrote handling of default-char width.
81 - implement _NET_WM_NAME et al., and also use UTF8_STRING
82 for the xterm property esc. sequence. Allows i18n window
83 titles etc.
84 - SMART_WINDOW_TITLE removed, pls. complain if you need this.
85 - added GBK encoding (formidable patch by WU Fengguang).
86 - fixed a bug in the transparency code.
87 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
88 - force slower (but more responsive) transparency update.
89 - fix off-by-one bug with wide characters at the end of a line,
90 which got partially overwritten by spaces.
91 - as xlib is completely broken with respect to utf-8 handling
92 and nobody is going to fix it, that part has been re-implemented.
93 should fix most paste problems between apps that use UTF8 encoding
94 and rxvt running in a lesser-supported locale (thanks to Robin Redeker
95 for writing utf8towcs). Only enabled with ENABLE_FRILLS.
96 - darwin compile fix by Ethan Blanton.
97 - fix the colour of the underline, which was rather random before.
98
994.3 Sat Dec 4 04:58:37 CET 2004
100 - unapply the "emulated graphical chars. respect wcwidth" patch.
101 obviously in locales not having these characters they should
102 still have a width. Solve it correctly by not relying on wcwidth.
103 Note to self: do not ever apply patches without checking them
104 thoroughly.
105 - updated .spec file, it's included in the release tarball
106 now, too.
107
1084.2 Wed Dec 1 03:30:22 CET 2004
109 - make emulated graphical characters respect wcwidth (Kuang-che Wu).
110 - remove debugging code that caused major slowdowns
111 on high-latency networks.
112 - wide characters shift the correct number of characters
113 in insert mode now. Reported by Gunnar Ritter.
114 - doc/rxvt-unicode.spec file contributed by Ville Herva.
115 - make storage of tab movements as characters optional
116 on the -ptab option and pastableTabs: resource. On request
117 by Gunnar Ritter.
118 - fix a bug where :size= argument for xft fonts was ignored
119 or used incorrectly. Reported by Ville Herva.
120
1214.1 Sun Nov 21 21:10:19 CET 2004
122 - save and restore cursor position in secondary screen regardless of
123 -ssc/-ssr settings.
124 - fix some 64-bit bugs that lead to crashes with certain other
125 programs like vncviewer (original rxvt also affected).
126 - added doc/podtbl to the dist tarball.
127 - add compile fix for darwin.
128 - configure fix for transparency without tinting.
129 - changed CN to ZH _really_ everywhere.
130 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
131
1324.0 Mon Sep 13 01:10:26 CEST 2004
133 - turn off autohinting for some badly-hinted fallback fonts.
134 - mnaapge tpyo crorcetoins by Bastian Kleineidam.
135 - implemented rectangular selections (button+meta), experimental.
136 - implement race-free signal handling in iom.C.
137 - use iom.C signal handling to avoid races in signal handling.
138 - use default action on SIGINT and SIGQUIT, instead of terminating.
139 - "the return of the 100 times per second refresh bug".
140 ... terminated by a fix.
141 - new supported preeeditType "None".
142 - added FAQ about possible compose key problems.
143 - changed CN to ZH everywhere (sorry for the confusion).
144 - move XFilterEvent up, as some input method seem to want events
145 for windows not requesting XIM. Please report if this change
146 causes any harm (specially with pointerblanking)
147 (patch by Kuang-che Wu).
148 - send the input method spot position on every refresh, not just
149 when rxvt thinks it should (which was not often enough...).
150 - fix double-wide combining characters (it might look a bit ugly,
151 though, but common cases are handled by normalization anyways).
152 - moved FAQ to rxvt(7), also made a copy into README.FAQ.
153 - fix a bug(?) in the XIM destroy callback.
154 - be more conservative when trying to register new input methods,
155 as Xlib races might make rxvt crash. When two or more
156 input methods are active, killing one probably still crashes rxvt
157 due to that bug :( Thanks a lot to Kuang-che Wu for immense help
158 in tracking this down.
159 - manpages (but not .txt and .html versions) will be patched (during
160 make install) with the correct program name and other info.
161
1623.9 Wed Aug 25 19:24:04 CEST 2004
163 - the change to unsigned int from unsigned short broke
164 many signed comparisons, resulting in failed assertions.
165
1663.8 Wed Aug 25 05:46:56 CEST 2004
167 - WARNING: TERM=rxvt-unicode is now *default* unless compiled
168 differently. A terminfo entry will automatically be compiled and
169 installed if tic is available.
170 - fixed some --disable switches that didn't work.
171 - tweaked src/features.h a bit.
172 - removed README.unicode.
173 - support select&paste of tab characters.
174 - fixed a segfault when trying to load nonexistant fonts (reported
175 by Eduard Bloch and Mikael Magnusson).
176 - fixed a long-standing rxvt bug in which rxvt failed to save
177 and restore the correct cursor position on the secondary screen.
178 - reworked rxvt-unicode terminfo to allow more efficient and less flickering
179 screen updates with curses.
180 - wide characters that are being halfway overwritten are now replaced
181 by spaces.
182 - urxvtc now transmits urxvt as default name, not urxvtc anymore
183 (likewise for other names chosen at configure time).
184 - disabled the automatic font lookup for unknown characters. xft
185 is just too slow for this to work.
186 - changed realbold code, implemented _real_ bold and italic support,
187 where _real_ means the symbiosis of what I want with what I can
188 implement. use --enable-styles.
189 - removed 256 color mode, but enable 88 colours in all modes
190 (88 to be compatible with 88 colour xterm which is widely
191 supported, and most programs assume a non-iso colourtable
192 for terminals with "odd" number of colours).
193 - added doc/etc/rxvt-unicode.terminfo which is a big overhaul
194 compared to the old rxvt terminfo.
195 - sped up xft rendering by 30% *iff* the font allows it (i.e. is
196 monospaced "enough") *and* matches the base font in width.
197 - implement positive and negative character-font caching, which
198 speeds up output immensely in case a character cannot be found
199 (only for non-bold right now).
200 - fix segfault in fading code on certain escape sequences.
201 - better default font size and style.
202 - rxvt-unicode is now much more picky about fonts not fitting
203 into the base font, but to offset this it will check each
204 single character against the base font extents and will only
205 use the characters fitting into the bounding box (+ some fudge).
206 - characters not fitting into the base boundary box will now often
207 be used anyways, but the following characters will be redrawn
208 more often to avoid pixel-droppings. This is like the original
209 rxvt pixel-dropping pass but it's much faster.
210 - scrollColor now affects plain scrollbar (Mikael Magnusson).
211 - fixed segfault in overlay code when height was larger than the
212 screen height.
213 - cursor no longer shines "through" the overlay.
214 - 7-bit ST marker detection was broken.
215 - scrollbar didn't come back sometimes when switching it
216 off/on using escape sequences (Mikael Magnusson).
217 - fix lots of colour problems with focus fading.
218 - $COLORFGBG was not set as documented.
219 - fix iso 14755 5.1 support when --enable-frills but --disable-iso14755.
220 - removed OSC 702.
221 - disabled MOUSE_REPORT_DOUBLECLICK by default, as programs seem to be
222 confused by it rather than using it.
223
2243.7 Tue Aug 17 04:22:25 CEST 2004
225 - new configure option --enable-iso14755.
226 - full iso 14755 conformance (at least I claim so :).
227 - extended the FAQ section in the manpage.
228 - fix OverTheSpot and OffTheSpot editing, which was broken since ages,
229 due to no fontset being available. The fontset used is a very rough
230 approximation to the rxvt font, though. This fixes the
231 "cannot create input context" in most cases.
232 - fix coordinates used for Over && OffTheSpot editing to fit directly
233 at the cursor (Over) or into the top line (Off).
234 - reset SIGHUP and SIGPIPE handlers to default values (they were
235 previously being ignored, causing programs not to exit on windoe
236 close).
237 - implemented simple overlays for feedback messages. believe it or
238 not, this was a major blocker in implementign tabbed termianls.
239 - fix compiling with --disable-frills (Adam Sampson).
240 - clarify bold docs in README.unicode (Adam Sampson).
241 - fix crash on window close when the input method or context
242 could not be created.
243 - add work around for badly written programs (see debian bug
244 #202497). This is _not_ a bug in rxvt but rather a race
245 condition in other programs (e.g. jed). It works by forcefully
246 sending SIGWINCH when rxvt sees the first output from the
247 command. This workaround isn't perfect (a slight cost to
248 wellbehaving programs who need to resize twice), but it usually
249 works.
250 - set correct pixel size in struct winsize.
251 - document more escape sequences.
252 - fix leftover macros and a few minor doc glitches in rxvt(1).
253 - work around bash's assumption that stepping into the middle of a
254 character is a sensible operation.
255 - fix some corner cases in autowrap handling.
256 - remove various useless make cruft, renamed files to better
257 reflect on their function, renamed many variables.
258 - fixed printscreen functionality, as noted by Jinesh Choksi.
259 - fix a problem where redraws of double-width characters sometimes
260 made the last character draw with normal width (especially visible
261 with selections).
262
2633.6 Sat Aug 14 04:55:26 CEST 2004
264 - SECURITY FIX: rxvtd kept open filehandles to other terminal
265 windows when spawning children. Actual risk is low (attacker
266 needs access to a local shell window).
267 - implemented parts 5.1 and 5.2 of ISO 14755 (i.e. hold down
268 Ctrl+Shift and enter hex numbers. space commits it as a unicode
269 character, or press and release Crl+Shift and then enter a
270 function key to get it's picture). patches for 5.3 (or 5.4 with
271 a little window or so) would be welcome.
272 - fixed large pastes (INCR selections, debian bug #191456).
273 - fixed longstanding bug in which rxvtd crashed when
274 a message was logged after startup (a rare case).
275 - got rid of yodl completely by converting to pod.
276 - integrated the FAQ into the manpage. In the future, more will be
277 added there.
278 - reference documentation is now installed as rxvt(7).
279 - rxvt(7) now contains README.configure, which is autogenerated.
280 - fix memory leak in insecure mode on certain display echos.
281 - report sequences now report empty strings in secure mode
282 instead of being ignored.
283 - enable some report sequences even in secure mode, such as colour
284 queries, as they are harmless(tm).
285 - rxvt-unicode will now try to find a matching xft font if it can't
286 find a matching font from the fallback list. It might look ugly,
287 but if a xft font with our character exists, rxvt will find it.
288 - moved FreeMono to the very back of the fallback list, as some
289 people complain it looks ugly. This is a no-win situation, though.
290 - fixed sourceforge bug 998970, reported against aterm:
291 "crash on -sl 0 on super small windows".
292 - decreased memory and code size when !--enable-transparency.
293 - SYNCCVS. backported changes done to rxvt, except for Color_ufbg,
294 which I think is better done through fading, and libW11, which
295 needs testing anyways.
296 - more complete compile options help output.
297 - Provide linear scaled colour cubes for 256 colour mode.
298 Pass them through as rgbi rather than rgb so that Xlib can
299 provide gamma (from per visual intensity lists) rather than
300 providing constant gamma ourselves. Noticed by and ideas from
301 Christopher Casey <realchriscasey@hotmail.com>
302 - minor doc fix.
303
3043.5 Wed Aug 11 00:31:34 CEST 2004
305 - UPGRADE ADVISED: rxvt did wake up 100 times per second. did not
306 show in my top (linux...), but it's extremely annoying that I
307 released it with that bug. :( Fixed.
308 - use memove instead of for-loop for large scrollback buffer copies.
309 speeds up large scrollback buffers (on systems with reasonable
310 memmove :)
311 - minor cleanups.
312 - removed ~ from default cutchars, in accordance with the manpage
313 (debian bug #169415).
314 - fix a race condition on exit (debian bug #197265).
315 - change prio/next scrolling modifier handling (debian bug #226386).
316 - updated configure script to current autoconf standards.
317 - updated config.guess.
318
3193.4 Fri Aug 6 19:34:29 CEST 2004
320 - fix inheritpixmap transparency border code.
321 - fix tinting transparency border code, also experimentally
322 make some scrollbars transparent (e.g. plain, my favourite style :).
323 - imported aterm shading code (faster and still portable).
324 - changed interpretation and usage of shading (-sh).
325 - fixed blinking underlined and negative text.
326 - disable slow link support on connections using unix domain sockets,
327 speeding up scrolling immensely.
328 - various other optimizations.
329 - new borderLess switch (ewmh-compliant), by Mikael Magnusson.
330
3313.3 Sat Jul 31 15:15:59 CEST 2004
332 - some doc updates (Eduard Bloch).
333 - use faster inheritpixmap method when tinting color not set.
334 - fix pixmap offset when tinting (reported by Eduard Bloch).
335 - new -sh option by Mikael Magnusson.
336 - off-focus-fading (--enable-fading) support (patch by
337 Mikael Magnusson).
338 - cursor now set correctly on --disable-blank (reported by
339 Mikael Magnusson).
340 - better (and non-crashing) slipwheeling (Mikael Magnusson).
341 - solaris 2.8 portability changes (reported by Colin Marquardt).
342 - disable-xim now really disables xim code.
343
3443.2 Mon Jul 26 19:57:32 CEST 2004
345 - support real bold fonts (patch by Adam Sampson <azz@us-lot.org>),
346 if specified in the font list (and enabled by -rb).
347 - fixed --enable-keepscrolling and --enable-selectionscrolling, which
348 was broken since 1.8. Patch by Hans de Goede <j.w.r.degoede@hhs.nl>.
349 - fixed --enable-slipwheeling, see above.
350 - sequences ended by ST can now contain any octet by quoting it
351 with ^V (SYN).
352 - 8-bit-controls disabled by default (compiletime option).
353
3543.1 Sat Jun 26 23:38:07 CEST 2004
355 - set default backspace sequence to "DEC" (which defaults to \177)
356 as opposed to \010 as before, which was incorrect (ahem :).
357 - updated doc/etc/rxvt.* to reflect the change. This brings rxvt
358 in line with many existing rxvt terminfo and termcap entries as
359 well as with other terminal emulators.
360 - fix a segfault when trying to set a nonexistant locale
361 (reported by elmex).
362 - find more fonts by default for japanese.
363 - the internal border wasn't always cleared. This is fixed by moving
364 the window relative to it's frame and simplifies a lot of code, too.
365 - fixed quite hard to find scrollbar colour bug, reported by Eduard
366 Bloch.
367
3683.0 Mon May 10 20:47:23 CEST 2004
369 - experimental flickerfree resize mode (I tried to get even
370 less flickering with SouthWestGravity but couldn't get it to work,
371 sorry).
372 - c++-ify (or at least make it compile with g++-3.4, which should
373 make it a little bit more correct c++).
4 374
52.9 Sat May 8 19:13:41 CEST 2004 3752.9 Sat May 8 19:13:41 CEST 2004
