5403:32:26 <BlueFish> Hi. I think I found a bug in special_encode in rxvtperl.xs
5503:33:37 <BlueFish> special_encode('لا') or any other string that contains 'لا' returns a disturbed string
5603:33:40 <schmorp> hi BlueFish
5703:34:10 <schmorp> whats a disturbed string?
5803:34:25 <BlueFish> for example سلام becomes ملام
5903:35:05 <BlueFish> see this issue: https://github.com/mkamensky/Text-Bidi/issues/10 I was trying to fix it
60 and after playing around for a while found out that special_encode is causing the problem
6103:35:36 <schmorp> does this happen when you compile without --enable-combining (or with --disable-combining)?
6203:37:40 <BlueFish> I don't know the one that I installed from my distro repository has this flag or not. Is
63 there anyway to check?
6403:38:49 <schmorp> rxvt --help will output a options: line at the top, whioch will list "combining"
6503:39:10 <schmorp> anyway, I don't think i will understand this at my current tiredness level, I'll have a
66 look when I have time
6703:39:26 <schmorp> are you usually around on this network, so I coulöd ask you in cas eI have questions?
6803:40:25 <BlueFish> yes combining is enabled. No I don't check IRC that much. You can reach me via email
6903:40:44 <schmorp> ok, thats fine

72 - implement a fix for CVE-2022-4170 (reported and analyzed by David Leadbeater).
73 While present in version 9.30, it should not be exploitable. It is exploitable
74 in versions 9.25 and 9.26, at least, and allows anybody controlling terminal
75 input to execute arbitrary code in the urxvt process.
76 - the background extension no longer requires off focus fading support
77 to be compiled in.
78 - the confirm-paste extension now offers a choice betwene pasting the original
79 or a sanitized version, and also frees up memory used to store the paste text
80 immediately.
81 - fix compiling without frills.
82 - fix rewrapMode: never.
83 - fix regression that caused urxvt to no longer emit responses
84 to OSC color queries other than OSC 4 ones.
85 - fix regression that caused urxvt to no longer process OSC 705.
86 - restore CENTURY to be 1900 to "improve" year parsing in urclock (or at
87 least go back to the old interpretation) (based on an analysis
88 by Tommy Pettersson).
89 - exec_async (used e.g. by the matcher extension to spawn processes) now
90 sets the URXVT_EXT_WINDOWID variable to the window id opf the terminal.
91 - implement -fps option/refreshRate resource to change the default 60 Hz
92 maximum refresh limiter. I always wanted an fps option, but had to
93 wait for a user requesting it.
94
959.30 Sat 27 Nov 2021 21:07:09 CET
96 - the background extension did not initialise properly when automatically
97 loaded via the OSC.
98 - new "on_attach" hook type implemented, to initialise late-loading
99 extensions.
100
1019.29 Mon 22 Nov 2021 18:07:14 CET
102 - libptytty (http://dist.schmorp.de/libptytty/) is now a required
103 external dependency.
104 - enable confirm-paste extension by default, can be disabled by e.g.
105 URxvt.perl-ext: -confirm-paste
106 - Key bindings specified with the -keysym option or with resources of
107 the form URxvt*keysym work again. Such resources, as opposed to
108 resources of the form URxvt.keysym, were not officially allowed but
109 accepted, so ignoring them is considered a regression.
110 - new option/resource -rm/rewrapMode, which sets the line rewrap
111 mode to auto, never or always.
112 - new option/resource -dpb/disablePasteBrackets, which can be used to
113 disable bracketed paste mode sequences, as more and more programs
114 abuse these sequences (typically in the name of security, but these
115 sequences are not improving security). Also, bracketed paste mode
116 is now under frills.
117 - add manpage for urclock.
118 - confirm-paste wrongly considered brackets as ctrlchars (patch by
119 Jakub Wilk, debian bug #995244).
120 - if urxvt cannot detect a good estimate for font width (because a font does
121 not contain latin characters at all for example), it will now fall
122 back to xft's max_advance_width, which works well with some fonts. It
123 currently will warn about this.
124 - do not render variation selectors in the default font as boxes, treat
125 them as zero-width characters.
126 - change combining character architecture to allow fonts to handle
127 combining sequences on their own. This could allow future renderers
128 to be more intelligent about these sequences.
129 - use the previous enhancement to allow unicode characters outside of the
130 BMP to be rendered even without --enable-unicode3, as long as an
131 xft with the character is configured.
132 It's recommended to stay with disabled unicode3 even more now.
133 - freetype/xft have been verified to return nonsensical offsets for
134 combining characters. urxvt tries to compensate to some extent,
135 but diacritics will be slightly off in many cases, and far off in
136 some cases (e.g. input mono).
137 - when checking for overlap/careful handling, take non-basefont
138 character shifts into account.
139 - extensions can now request autoloading on OSC and Perl OSC sequences,
140 implement this for the background, clipboard-osc and overlay-osc
141 extensions.
142 - the background extension will now be autoloaded when the OSC 20 or 705
143 sequence is received.
144 - added OSC 776 sequence to return character cell width, height and font
145 ascent, which is useful when using urxvt as slave to calculate window
146 size form or to row/column count.
147 - matcher extension documentation now points out some requirements for
148 regular expressions. the default url matching regex will now try
149 to match IRLs in addition to URLs.
150 - The view_start perl method now scrolls to the bottom also when the
151 argument is greater than 0.
152 - eval scroll actions now scroll to the bottom when scrolling down and
153 there are less lines to scroll than the ones requested (reported by
154 Stephen Talley).
155 - allow perl-ext and perl-ext-common to override autoloaded extensions.
156 this allows tabbed to disable itself in subtabs, avoiding recursive
157 loading.
158 - update precompose table to unicode 13.0.
159 - update charset conversion tables to perl 5.32 (this only affected
160 cs_koi8_u_from_unicode).
161 - unicode characters > 0x100000 were not handled correctly w.r.t.
162 font rendering.
163 - replace bitstream vera by dejavu sans, as it has replaced the former
164 almost everywhere.
165 - urxvt will now try tic -x first and only fall back to tic without -x
166 when tic -x fails.
167 - fix urclock not erasing the old date on the clock face, causing
168 overdraw, plus a host of other small fixes and improvements.
169 - shave off over 1K of code size from urclock by replacing the sine table
170 with a slightly less accurate fixed point approximation.
171 - do not specify indentation with =over in pod, this is no longer
172 needed with semi-modern pod tools and gives the formatter more
173 stylistic freedom.
174 - background extension did not set the "size-sensitive" flag
175 when repeat mode wasn't normal.
176 - extensions are now subjected to "use strict 'subs'".
177 - avoid crashing when xft successfully opens a font but then somehow
178 can't lock the face.
179 - locale_decode/encode api methods now pass through undef unchanged.
180 - fix undefined behaviour in the perl hook function, as diagnosed by clang.
181
1829.26 Fri May 14 19:14:14 CEST 2021
183 - ev_iouring.c was wrongly required during compilation, and wrongly
184 not packaged.
185
1869.25 Fri May 14 15:51:36 CEST 2021
187 - for the 17.5th anniversary, and because many distributions seem to
188 remove rxvt in favour of urxvt, this release resurrects rclock as
189 urclock.
190 - add support for systemd socket-based activation - debian bug #917105,
191 freebsd bug #234276.
192 - do not destruct perl on exit anymore: this might fail for a variety of
193 reasons, and takes unnecessary time.
194 - remove any macros from urxvtperl manpage(s), should fix debian
195 bug 858385.
196 - the old bg image resources are now provided by the background
197 extension, and perl is thus required for bg image support. No
198 configuration change is needed: urxvt autoloads the background
199 ext if any bg image resource/option is present (for OSC sequences to
200 work you need to enable it explicitly). The old bg image
201 resources are also now deprecated; users are encouraged to
202 switch to the new bg image interface (see man urxvt-background).
203 - confirm-paste now checks for any ctlchars, not just newlines.
204 - searchable scrollback will now ignore bracketed paste mode sequences
205 (prompted by Daniel Gröber's patch).
206 - drop ISO 2022 locale support. ISO 2022 encodings are not supported in
207 POSIX locales and clash with vt100 charset emulation (the luit
208 program can be used as a substitute).
209 - perl didn't parse rgba colours specified as an array correctly,
210 only allowing 0 and 100% intensity for each component (this affected
211 fill and tint).
212 - when iterating over resources, urxvt will now try to properly handle
213 multipart resources (such as "*background.expr"), for the benefit
214 of autoloading perl extensions.
215 - ESC G (query rxvt graphics mode) has been disabled due to security
216 implications. The rxvt graphics mode was removed in rxvt-unicode 1.5,
217 and no programs relying on being able to query the mode are known.
218 - work around API change breakage in perl 5.28, based on a patch by
219 Roman Bogorodskiy.
220 - improved security: rob nation's (obsolete) graphics mode queries
221 no longer reply with linefeed in secure/default mode.
42 - ISO 8613-3 direct colour SGR sequences (patch by Fengguang Wu). 222 - ISO 8613-3 direct colour SGR sequences (patch by Fengguang Wu).
43 - xterm focus reporting mode (patch by Daniel Hahler). 223 - xterm focus reporting mode (patch by Daniel Hahler).
224 - xterm SGR mouse mode.
225 - implement DECRQM. Patch by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
226 - add missing color index parameter to OSC 4 response. Patch
227 by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
228 - in some window managers, if smart resize was enabled, urxvt
229 erroneously moved the window on font change - awesome bug
230 #532, arch linux bug ##34807 (patch by Uli Schlachter).
231 - fix urxvtd crash when using a background expression.
232 - properly restore colors when using fading and reverse video
233 is enabled while urxvt is focused and then disabled while it
234 is not focused, or vice versa (patch by Daniel Hahler).
235 - fix high memory usage when an extension repeatedly hides and
236 shows an overlay (reported by Marcel Lautenbach).
237 - expose priv_modes member and constants to perl extensions
238 (patch by Rastislav Barlik).
239 - fix a whole slew of const sillyness, unfortunately forced upon
240 us by ISO C++.
241 - update to libecb 0x00010006.
242 - disable all thread support in ecb.h as we presumably don't need it.
243 - slightly improve Makefile source dependencies.
244 - work around bugs in newer Pod::Xhtml versions (flags incorrect formatting codes
245 in xhtml/html sections but does not interpret correct ones).
