51 - enable confirm-paste extension by default, can be disabled by e.g.
52 URxvt.perl-ext: -confirm-paste
53 - Key bindings specified with the -keysym option or with resources of
54 the form URxvt*keysym work again. Such resources, as opposed to
55 resources of the form URxvt.keysym, were not officially allowed but
56 accepted, so ignoring them is considered a regression.
57 - new option/resource -rm/rewrapMode, which sets the line rewrap
58 mode to auto, never or always.
59 - new option/resource -dpb/disablePasteBrackets, which can be used to
60 disable bracketed paste mode sequences, as more and more programs
61 abuse these sequences (typically in the name of security, but these
62 sequences are not improving security). Also, bracketed paste mode
63 is now under frills.
64 - if urxvt cannot detect a good estimate for font width (because a font does
65 not contain latin characters at all for example), it will now fall
66 back to xft's max_advance_width, which works well with some fonts. It
67 currently will warn about this.
68 - do not render variation selectors in the default font as boxes, treat
69 them as zero-width characters.
70 - change combining character architecture to allow fonts to handle
71 combining sequences on their own. This could allow future renderers
72 to be more intelligent about these sequences.
73 - use the previous enhancement to allow unicode characters outside of the
74 BMP to be rendered even without --enable-unicode3, as long as an
75 xft with the character is configured.
76 It's recommended to stay with disabled unicode3 even more now.
77 - freetype/xft have been verified to return nonsensical offsets for
78 combining characters. urxvt tries to compensate to some extent,
79 but diacritics will be slightly off in many cases, and far off in
80 some cases (e.g. input mono).
81 - when checking for overlap/careful handling, take non-basefont
82 character shifts into account.
83 - extensions can now request autoloading on OSC and Perl OSC sequences,
84 implement this for the background, clipboard-osc and overlay-osc
85 extensions.
86 - the background extension will now be autoloaded when the OSC 20 or 705
87 sequence is received.
88 - The view_start perl method now scrolls to the bottom also when the
89 argument is greater than 0.
90 - eval scroll actions now scroll to the bottom when scrolling down and
91 there are less lines to scroll than the ones requested (reported by
92 Stephen Talley).
93 - allow perl-ext and perl-ext-common to override autoloaded extensions.
94 this allows tabbed to disable itself in subtabs, avoiding recursive
95 loading.
96 - update precompose table to unicode 13.0.
97 - update charset conversion tables to perl 5.32 (this only affected
98 cs_koi8_u_from_unicode).
99 - unicode characters > 0x100000 were not handled correctly w.r.t.
100 font rendering.
101 - replace bitstream vera by dejavu sans, as it has replaced the former
102 almost everywhere.
103 - urxvt will now try tic -x first and only fall back to tic without -x
104 when tic -x fails.
105 - shave off over 1K of code size from urclock by replacing the sine table
106 with a slightly less accurate fixed point approximation.
107 - do not specify indentation with =over in pod, this is no longer
108 needed with semi-modern pod tools and gives the formatter more
109 stylistic freedom.
110 - background extension did not set the "size-sensitive" flag
111 when repeat mode wasn't normal.
112 - extensions are now subjected to "use strict 'subs'".
113 - avoid crashing when xft successfully opens a font but then somehow
114 can't lock the face.
115
1169.26 Fri May 14 19:14:14 CEST 2021
117 - ev_iouring.c was wrongly required during compilation, and wrongly
118 not packaged.
119
1209.25 Fri May 14 15:51:36 CEST 2021
121 - for the 17.5th anniversary, and because many distributions seem to
122 remove rxvt in favour of urxvt, this release resurrects rclock as
123 urclock.
124 - add support for systemd socket-based activation - debian bug #917105,
125 freebsd bug #234276.
126 - do not destruct perl on exit anymore: this might fail for a variety of
127 reasons, and takes unnecessary time.
128 - remove any macros from urxvtperl manpage(s), should fix debian
129 bug 858385.
130 - the old bg image resources are now provided by the background
131 extension, and perl is thus required for bg image support. No
132 configuration change is needed: urxvt autoloads the background
133 ext if any bg image resource/option is present (for OSC sequences to
134 work you need to enable it explicitly). The old bg image
135 resources are also now deprecated; users are encouraged to
136 switch to the new bg image interface (see man urxvt-background).
137 - confirm-paste now checks for any ctlchars, not just newlines.
138 - searchable scrollback will now ignore bracketed paste mode sequences
139 (prompted by Daniel Gröber's patch).
140 - drop ISO 2022 locale support. ISO 2022 encodings are not supported in
141 POSIX locales and clash with vt100 charset emulation (the luit
142 program can be used as a substitute).
143 - perl didn't parse rgba colours specified as an array correctly,
144 only allowing 0 and 100% intensity for each component (this affected
145 fill and tint).
146 - when iterating over resources, urxvt will now try to properly handle
147 multipart resources (such as "*background.expr"), for the benefit
148 of autoloading perl extensions.
149 - ESC G (query rxvt graphics mode) has been disabled due to security
150 implications. The rxvt graphics mode was removed in rxvt-unicode 1.5,
151 and no programs relying on being able to query the mode are known.
152 - work around API change breakage in perl 5.28, based on a patch by
153 Roman Bogorodskiy.
154 - improved security: rob nation's (obsolete) graphics mode queries
155 no longer reply with linefeed in secure/default mode.
156 - ISO 8613-3 direct colour SGR sequences (patch by Fengguang Wu).
157 - xterm focus reporting mode (patch by Daniel Hahler).
158 - xterm SGR mouse mode.
159 - implement DECRQM. Patch by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
160 - add missing color index parameter to OSC 4 response. Patch
161 by Přemysl Eric Janouch.
162 - in some window managers, if smart resize was enabled, urxvt
163 erroneously moved the window on font change - awesome bug
164 #532, arch linux bug ##34807 (patch by Uli Schlachter).
165 - fix urxvtd crash when using a background expression.
166 - properly restore colors when using fading and reverse video
167 is enabled while urxvt is focused and then disabled while it
168 is not focused, or vice versa (patch by Daniel Hahler).
169 - fix high memory usage when an extension repeatedly hides and
170 shows an overlay (reported by Marcel Lautenbach).
171 - expose priv_modes member and constants to perl extensions
172 (patch by Rastislav Barlik).
173 - fix a whole slew of const sillyness, unfortunately forced upon
174 us by ISO C++.
175 - update to libecb 0x00010006.
176 - disable all thread support in ecb.h as we presumably don't need it.
177 - slightly improve Makefile source dependencies.
178 - work around bugs in newer Pod::Xhtml versions (flags incorrect formatting codes
179 in xhtml/html sections but does not interpret correct ones).
180
1819.22 Sat Jan 23 21:07:33 CET 2016
182 - NOTICE: this release updates terminfo.
183 - add terminfo capabilities for various ctrl and shift-ctrl key variants
184 (patch by Sebastian Schmidt).
185 - fix longstanding core font encoding bug where some character
186 ranges could not be mapped from unicode to the font: affected
187 encodings are big5, gb2312, iso8859-8 (hebrew), jis0201 and
188 ksc5601 (reported by Mikachu).
189 - fix crash when the number of columns is 1 and a 0 width character is inserted
190 (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
191 - fix a crash when parsing an invalid color specification (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
192 - fix a buffer overflow in font name parser (reported by Kuang-che Wu).
193 - do not start blinking cursor if the window is unfocused (reported by
194 Devin J. Pohly).
195 - change the width of underline and i-beam cursor to 2 pixels (based on
196 a patch by Omar Sandoval).
197 - add pointerShape resource to change the mouse pointer shape
198 (based on a patch by Brian Watson).
199 - a keysym resource for a key which is already bound to an
200 action now properly rebinds the key.
201 - do not report mouse motion events if Shift is active (patch by Daniel Hahler).
202 - put the alpha component last in responses to OSC color queries
203 (patch by Benjamin Herr).
204 - the key_press hook is now invoked before processing the
205 event, as documented. This change was done in 9.21 but not
206 announced and fixes debian bugs #511377, #531751 and red hat
207 bug #1105069. Note that this change breaks a few scripts,
208 such as mark-yank-urls, which rely on the previous buggy
209 behaviour that urxvt processes the event (in particular
210 keysym bindings) before invoking the hook.
211 - the tabbed extension now properly refreshes the active tab
212 on a key press when the mouse pointer is outside the terminal
213 window.
214 - add 'lookup_keysym' perl method to lookup the action bound
215 to a key combination.
216 - a key combination bound to 'matcher:select' can now be used
217 to cycle through the matches in matcher.
218 - change perl integer accessors (->width et al.) into mutators.
219
2209.21 Wed Dec 31 14:50:03 CET 2014
221 - the "moa redraw 8-bit british vintage colour management" release.
222 - NOTICE: this release updates terminfo.
223 - fix pixel droppings on overdraw when a secondary core font has the
224 same height but different ascent.
225 - implement cvvis in terminfo as blinking cursor, to distinguish it
226 from cnorm (emacs uses cvvis which is commonly a blinking cursor).
227 - when xft support was compiled in, colour queries erroneously returned
228 premultiplied values, this also affected internal queries, for example
229 when calculating faded colour. alpha is now divided out when possible,
230 which is more correct but loses colour resolution.
231 - add DECSCUSR xterm extension to set the cursor to a vertical bar.
232 - add 'extension:string' action, and associated on_action perl
233 hook, for keysym resources that invokes actions provided by
234 perl extensions. The 'perl:string' action and
235 on_user_command hook are deprecated but still supported.
236 - add 'builtin-string' action for keysym resources that restores string
237 mappings for keys that have predefined actions in urxvt.
238 - add -k option to urxvtc for killing the daemon process.
239 - document urxvtd's -e/--eval option that was implemented in 9.16,
240 but not documented.
241 - add -dockapp option to make the wm treat urxvt as a dockapp.
242 - add -mc option and multiClickTime resource to set the maximum time
243 between multi-click select events (patch by Joe Peterson).
244 - new 'eval' extension to evaluate arbitrary perl code with keysym
245 bindings. The extension also provides methods that implement basic
246 actions, such as pasting selections and scrolling.
247 - the macosx-clipboard and macosx-clipboard-native extensions have been removed.
248 - kuake extension now uses the kuake.hotkey resource to specify the hotkey.
249 - new 'matcher:select' mode of matcher to iterate over the matches with the keyboard.
250 - the 'matcher:list' feature of matcher now honours the launcher
251 associated to a matched pattern.
252 - speed-up matcher underlining on very long lines (reported by Edward Z. Yang).
253 - fix up/down commands of searchable-scrollback so that they always move
254 to the previous/next logical line with a match, if any.
255 - searchable-scrollback resource has been deprecated (use keysym instead).
256 - extension parameter passing is deprecated (use resource mechanism instead).
257 - upgrade to GPLv3 (see COPYING).
258 - compile out of the box on Solaris 10, again.
259 - fix height and position of the stippled area in next scrollbar (patch
260 by Thomas Otto).
261 - fix off-by-one bug causing the iso14755 window not to jump out of the
262 way properly.
263 - fix crash that may happen if a lib to which urxvt is linked to calls setenv.
264 - fix memory leak in special_{encode,decode} perl methods.
265 - fix refresh bug that occurs when reverse video is set on a cell
266 containing a space and with the same bg and fg colour, red hat bug
267 #830236.
268 - fix crash that may happen if an x error is received after a terminal
269 window/popup has been destroyed already.
270 - removed superfluous 0 digit from sgr terminfo sequence.
271 - greatly improve colour allocation on colour-starved pseudocolour
272 displays to avoid read-write cells instead of simply failing
273 (this is only relevant for antique 8bpp frame buffers).
274 - do not free fade colours when not doing fading (this is likely
275 only relevant for antique 8bpp frame buffers).
276 - do not specialcase 2 or 4 colour visuals, leading to
277 simpler and actually more correct code.
278 - hopefully no longer leak colours on !truecolour visuals.
279 - use consistent method names (scr_recolour => scr_recolor).
280 - use simpler (but slightly less bogus) formula for nearest
281 colour choice (this is likely only relevant for antique 8bpp
282 frame buffers).
283 - remove fallback behaviour when initialising colours - the
284 behaviour was inconsistent between startup vs. later and
285 was only effective when valid colours couldn't be allocated.
286
2879.20 Sat Apr 26 16:22:27 CEST 2014
288 - (libptytty) fix bug that prevented urxvtd from writing utmp
289 entries when using --fork (reported by Ryan Kavanagh).
290 - security bugfix: window property values could be queried even
291 in secure mode (reported by Conor McCarthy).
292 - fix build when perl is enabled and fading is disabled.
293 - fix regression that broke continuous scrolling when pressing
294 and holding the scrollbar up or down button, gentoo bug #493992.
295 - increase the maximum length of a command sequence to 32k bytes,
296 to allow longer OSC sequences (previous limit was 2k).
297 - new Ctrl-Meta-c and Ctrl-Meta-v bindings to interact with
298 the CLIPBOARD selection.
299 - new extension: selection-to-clipboard.
300 - the extensions macosx-clipboard and macosx-clipboard-native
301 are deprecated and will be removed in the next release.
302 Support for the clipboard on OS X can be more generally
303 enabled by setting the XQuartz preference to sync the OS X
304 pasteboard and the X11 clipboard.
305
3069.19 Sun Oct 27 17:16:07 CET 2013
307 - work around perl 5.18.0 breakage in tabbed extension
308 (reported by Karol Blazewicz) and in pod (Dominic Hargreaves).
309 - fix regression that caused the double-click word selection to
310 erroneously include a tab on the left of the selected word.
311 - implement FOCUS variable and focus_fade function in background
312 expression, to allow focus-sensitive background images.
313 - add support for the set cursor style (DECSCUSR) control
314 function.
315 - honour cursorColor also when the cursor style is underline.
316 - export some Color_xxx constants to Perl.
317
3189.18 Sun Mar 24 15:33:35 CET 2013
319 - fix regression that caused artifacts on resize.
320
3219.17 Fri Mar 1 13:46:08 CET 2013
322 - add shade operator in background perl extension.
323 - avoid starting or ending the selection in the middle of wide
324 characters to avoid artifacts (reported by Tiago Resende).
325 - fix artifacts that may occur if the character in the cursor
326 cell has width > 1 (reported by Tiago Resende).
327 - fix regression that causes artifacts on scrolling if
328 saveLines is 0 and the window is resized (reported by Bert
329 Münnich).
330 - fix build when perl is enabled and pixbuf and transparency
331 are disabled.
332
3339.16 Thu Dec 27 11:56:43 CET 2012
334 - the "so much new stuff your eyes will pop out" release.
335 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: renamed urlLauncher resource to url-launcher.
336 - fix processing of DEC private mode save sequences (patch by Patrick
337 Hemmer).
338 - perl extensions now have their own manpages, installed as urxvt-NAME(1),
339 e.g. urxvt-background(1) - see urxvt-extensions(1) for a list.
340 - fix disabling of cursor blink with the option-popup menu (based on a
341 patch by Jan Larres).
342 - the font height is not augmented anymore when lineSpace is non zero.
343 - fix "new pagemap" vs. "delete pagemap" mismatch ([] vs. non-[]),
344 as diagnosed by clang.
345 - fix height mismatch between active and inactive cursor when
346 lineSpace is non zero (patch by Stanislav Seletskiy).
347 - make it compile with LOCAL_X_IS_UNIX again (reported by
348 nickfailure@gmail.com).
349 - completely redone background pixmap support - users can now
350 specify arbitrary expressions (And programs) that calculate
351 new terminal backgrounds. see the urxvt-background manpage
352 for details.
353 - xrender is now required for background pixmap support.
354 - perl extensions can now provide commandline switches and resources
355 which show up in -help etc.
356 - iso14755 51 mode window now displays row and column.
357 - implement a -visual switch and move that and -depth to frills, also
358 warn when we can't get the requested visual.
359 - new env variable: RXVT_PERL_LIB.
360 - allocate all screen memory in one go and let the virtual memory
361 subsystem sort it out. this simplifies code, improves access
362 locality, saves a bit of ram and makes things a bit faster, too.
363 - remove support for libafterimage.
364 - update to CVS version of libev, for a whopping 11kb size decrease.
365 - do not ship yet another copy of ecb.h, use the one in libev or
366 libptytty instead.
367 - selectively mark some methods as cache-hot/cache cold, which
368 might speed up execution but definitely decreases codesize.
369 - Fix regression that prevented the scrollbar trough color
370 from being applied (reported by Derek B. Noonburg).
371 - Fix the scrollbar size for rxvt style (patch by Mark Robinson).
372
3739.15 Sat Jan 21 13:36:56 CET 2012
374 - remove "using namespace std" because clang erroneously
375 thinks thats an error.
376 - finding a matching font (e.g. bold version of the base font)
377 was broken (reported by Eamon Walker).
378 - fix parsing of bg image styles. They really work now.
379 - fix blurring of bg image borders when using xrender.
380 - fix xrender blur on common xrender implementations that do
381 not behave correctly when the same pixmap is used as source
382 and destination in composite operations.
383 - fix regression that caused tabbed to compute the wrong size
384 for tabs.
385 - allow again an empty suffix in a keysym list spec (patch by
386 Sung Pae).
387 - unsupported support for sun studio's CC added.
388 - fix -C option on solaris.
389
