114.0 Mon Sep 13 01:10:26 CEST 2004
12 - turn off autohinting for some badly-hinted fallback fonts.
13 - mnaapge tpyo crorcetoins by Bastian Kleineidam.
14 - implemented rectangular selections (button+meta), experimental.
15 - implement race-free signal handling in iom.C.
16 - use iom.C signal handling to avoid races in signal handling.
17 - use default action on SIGINT and SIGQUIT, instead of terminating.
18 - "the return of the 100 times per second refresh bug".
19 ... terminated by a fix.
20 - new supported preeeditType "None".
21 - added FAQ about possible compose key problems.
22 - changed CN to ZH everywhere (sorry for the confusion).
23 - move XFilterEvent up, as some input method seem to want events
24 for windows not requesting XIM. Please report if this change
25 causes any harm (specially with pointerblanking)
26 (patch by Kuang-che Wu).
27 - send the input method spot position on every refresh, not just
28 when rxvt thinks it should (which was not often enough...).
29 - fix double-wide combining characters (it might look a bit ugly,
30 though, but common cases are handled by normalization anyways).
31 - moved FAQ to rxvt(7), also made a copy into README.FAQ.
32 - fix a bug(?) in the XIM destroy callback.
33 - be more conservative when trying to register new input methods,
34 as Xlib races might make rxvt crash. When two or more
35 input methods are active, killing one probably still crashes rxvt
36 due to that bug :( Thanks a lot to Kuang-che Wu for immense help
37 in tracking this down.
38 - manpages (but not .txt and .html versions) will be patched (during
39 make install) with the correct program name and other info.
40
413.9 Wed Aug 25 19:24:04 CEST 2004
42 - the change to unsigned int from unsigned short broke
43 many signed comparisons, resulting in failed assertions.
44
453.8 Wed Aug 25 05:46:56 CEST 2004
46 - WARNING: TERM=rxvt-unicode is now *default* unless compiled
47 differently. A terminfo entry will automatically be compiled and
48 installed if tic is available.
49 - fixed some --disable switches that didn't work.
50 - tweaked src/features.h a bit.
51 - removed README.unicode.
52 - support select&paste of tab characters.
53 - fixed a segfault when trying to load nonexistant fonts (reported
54 by Eduard Bloch and Mikael Magnusson).
55 - fixed a long-standing rxvt bug in which rxvt failed to save
56 and restore the correct cursor position on the secondary screen.
57 - reworked rxvt-unicode terminfo to allow more efficient and less flickering
58 screen updates with curses.
59 - wide characters that are being halfway overwritten are now replaced
60 by spaces.
61 - urxvtc now transmits urxvt as default name, not urxvtc anymore
62 (likewise for other names chosen at configure time).
63 - disabled the automatic font lookup for unknown characters. xft
64 is just too slow for this to work.
65 - changed realbold code, implemented _real_ bold and italic support,
66 where _real_ means the symbiosis of what I want with what I can
67 implement. use --enable-styles.
68 - removed 256 color mode, but enable 88 colours in all modes
69 (88 to be compatible with 88 colour xterm which is widely
70 supported, and most programs assume a non-iso colourtable
71 for terminals with "odd" number of colours).
72 - added doc/etc/rxvt-unicode.terminfo which is a big overhaul
73 compared to the old rxvt terminfo.
74 - sped up xft rendering by 30% *iff* the font allows it (i.e. is
75 monospaced "enough") *and* matches the base font in width.
76 - implement positive and negative character-font caching, which
77 speeds up output immensely in case a character cannot be found
78 (only for non-bold right now).
79 - fix segfault in fading code on certain escape sequences.
80 - better default font size and style.
81 - rxvt-unicode is now much more picky about fonts not fitting
82 into the base font, but to offset this it will check each
83 single character against the base font extents and will only
84 use the characters fitting into the bounding box (+ some fudge).
85 - characters not fitting into the base boundary box will now often
86 be used anyways, but the following characters will be redrawn
87 more often to avoid pixel-droppings. This is like the original
88 rxvt pixel-dropping pass but it's much faster.
89 - scrollColor now affects plain scrollbar (Mikael Magnusson).
90 - fixed segfault in overlay code when height was larger than the
91 screen height.
92 - cursor no longer shines "through" the overlay.
93 - 7-bit ST marker detection was broken.
94 - scrollbar didn't come back sometimes when switching it
95 off/on using escape sequences (Mikael Magnusson).
96 - fix lots of colour problems with focus fading.
97 - $COLORFGBG was not set as documented.
98 - fix iso 14755 5.1 support when --enable-frills but --disable-iso14755.
99 - removed OSC 702.
100 - disabled MOUSE_REPORT_DOUBLECLICK by default, as programs seem to be
101 confused by it rather than using it.
102
1033.7 Tue Aug 17 04:22:25 CEST 2004
104 - new configure option --enable-iso14755.
105 - full iso 14755 conformance (at least I claim so :).
106 - extended the FAQ section in the manpage.
107 - fix OverTheSpot and OffTheSpot editing, which was broken since ages,
108 due to no fontset being available. The fontset used is a very rough
109 approximation to the rxvt font, though. This fixes the
110 "cannot create input context" in most cases.
111 - fix coordinates used for Over && OffTheSpot editing to fit directly
112 at the cursor (Over) or into the top line (Off).
113 - reset SIGHUP and SIGPIPE handlers to default values (they were
114 previously being ignored, causing programs not to exit on windoe
115 close).
116 - implemented simple overlays for feedback messages. believe it or
117 not, this was a major blocker in implementign tabbed termianls.
118 - fix compiling with --disable-frills (Adam Sampson).
119 - clarify bold docs in README.unicode (Adam Sampson).
120 - fix crash on window close when the input method or context
121 could not be created.
122 - add work around for badly written programs (see debian bug
123 #202497). This is _not_ a bug in rxvt but rather a race
124 condition in other programs (e.g. jed). It works by forcefully
125 sending SIGWINCH when rxvt sees the first output from the
126 command. This workaround isn't perfect (a slight cost to
127 wellbehaving programs who need to resize twice), but it usually
128 works.
129 - set correct pixel size in struct winsize.
130 - document more escape sequences.
131 - fix leftover macros and a few minor doc glitches in rxvt(1).
132 - work around bash's assumption that stepping into the middle of a
133 character is a sensible operation.
134 - fix some corner cases in autowrap handling.
135 - remove various useless make cruft, renamed files to better
136 reflect on their function, renamed many variables.
137 - fixed printscreen functionality, as noted by Jinesh Choksi.
138 - fix a problem where redraws of double-width characters sometimes
139 made the last character draw with normal width (especially visible
140 with selections).
141
1423.6 Sat Aug 14 04:55:26 CEST 2004
143 - SECURITY FIX: rxvtd kept open filehandles to other terminal
144 windows when spawning children. Actual risk is low (attacker
145 needs access to a local shell window).
146 - implemented parts 5.1 and 5.2 of ISO 14755 (i.e. hold down
147 Ctrl+Shift and enter hex numbers. space commits it as a unicode
148 character, or press and release Crl+Shift and then enter a
149 function key to get it's picture). patches for 5.3 (or 5.4 with
150 a little window or so) would be welcome.
151 - fixed large pastes (INCR selections, debian bug #191456).
152 - fixed longstanding bug in which rxvtd crashed when
153 a message was logged after startup (a rare case).
154 - got rid of yodl completely by converting to pod.
155 - integrated the FAQ into the manpage. In the future, more will be
156 added there.
157 - reference documentation is now installed as rxvt(7).
158 - rxvt(7) now contains README.configure, which is autogenerated.
159 - fix memory leak in insecure mode on certain display echos.
160 - report sequences now report empty strings in secure mode
161 instead of being ignored.
162 - enable some report sequences even in secure mode, such as colour
163 queries, as they are harmless(tm).
164 - rxvt-unicode will now try to find a matching xft font if it can't
165 find a matching font from the fallback list. It might look ugly,
166 but if a xft font with our character exists, rxvt will find it.
167 - moved FreeMono to the very back of the fallback list, as some
168 people complain it looks ugly. This is a no-win situation, though.
169 - fixed sourceforge bug 998970, reported against aterm:
170 "crash on -sl 0 on super small windows".
171 - decreased memory and code size when !--enable-transparency.
172 - SYNCCVS. backported changes done to rxvt, except for Color_ufbg,
173 which I think is better done through fading, and libW11, which
174 needs testing anyways.
175 - more complete compile options help output.
176 - Provide linear scaled colour cubes for 256 colour mode.
177 Pass them through as rgbi rather than rgb so that Xlib can
178 provide gamma (from per visual intensity lists) rather than
179 providing constant gamma ourselves. Noticed by and ideas from
180 Christopher Casey <realchriscasey@hotmail.com>
181 - minor doc fix.
182
1833.5 Wed Aug 11 00:31:34 CEST 2004
184 - UPGRADE ADVISED: rxvt did wake up 100 times per second. did not
185 show in my top (linux...), but it's extremely annoying that I
186 released it with that bug. :( Fixed.
187 - use memove instead of for-loop for large scrollback buffer copies.
188 speeds up large scrollback buffers (on systems with reasonable
189 memmove :)
190 - minor cleanups.
191 - removed ~ from default cutchars, in accordance with the manpage
192 (debian bug #169415).
193 - fix a race condition on exit (debian bug #197265).
194 - change prio/next scrolling modifier handling (debian bug #226386).
195 - updated configure script to current autoconf standards.
196 - updated config.guess.
197
1983.4 Fri Aug 6 19:34:29 CEST 2004
199 - fix inheritpixmap transparency border code.
200 - fix tinting transparency border code, also experimentally
201 make some scrollbars transparent (e.g. plain, my favourite style :).
202 - imported aterm shading code (faster and still portable).
203 - changed interpretation and usage of shading (-sh).
204 - fixed blinking underlined and negative text.
205 - disable slow link support on connections using unix domain sockets,
206 speeding up scrolling immensely.
207 - various other optimizations.
208 - new borderLess switch (ewmh-compliant), by Mikael Magnusson.
209
2103.3 Sat Jul 31 15:15:59 CEST 2004
211 - some doc updates (Eduard Bloch).
212 - use faster inheritpixmap method when tinting color not set.
213 - fix pixmap offset when tinting (reported by Eduard Bloch).
214 - new -sh option by Mikael Magnusson.
215 - off-focus-fading (--enable-fading) support (patch by
216 Mikael Magnusson).
217 - cursor now set correctly on --disable-blank (reported by
218 Mikael Magnusson).
219 - better (and non-crashing) slipwheeling (Mikael Magnusson).
220 - solaris 2.8 portability changes (reported by Colin Marquardt).
221 - disable-xim now really disables xim code.
222
2233.2 Mon Jul 26 19:57:32 CEST 2004
224 - support real bold fonts (patch by Adam Sampson <azz@us-lot.org>),
225 if specified in the font list (and enabled by -rb).
226 - fixed --enable-keepscrolling and --enable-selectionscrolling, which
227 was broken since 1.8. Patch by Hans de Goede <j.w.r.degoede@hhs.nl>.
228 - fixed --enable-slipwheeling, see above.
229 - sequences ended by ST can now contain any octet by quoting it
230 with ^V (SYN).
231 - 8-bit-controls disabled by default (compiletime option).
232
2333.1 Sat Jun 26 23:38:07 CEST 2004
234 - set default backspace sequence to "DEC" (which defaults to \177)
235 as opposed to \010 as before, which was incorrect (ahem :).
236 - updated doc/etc/rxvt.* to reflect the change. This brings rxvt
237 in line with many existing rxvt terminfo and termcap entries as
238 well as with other terminal emulators.
239 - fix a segfault when trying to set a nonexistant locale
240 (reported by elmex).
241 - find more fonts by default for japanese.
242 - the internal border wasn't always cleared. This is fixed by moving
243 the window relative to it's frame and simplifies a lot of code, too.
244 - fixed quite hard to find scrollbar colour bug, reported by Eduard
245 Bloch.
246
2473.0 Mon May 10 20:47:23 CEST 2004
248 - experimental flickerfree resize mode (I tried to get even
249 less flickering with SouthWestGravity but couldn't get it to work,
250 sorry).
251 - c++-ify (or at least make it compile with g++-3.4, which should
252 make it a little bit more correct c++).
253
2542.9 Sat May 8 19:13:41 CEST 2004
255 - fix some minor doc issues + some generated doc files are now
256 getting distributed (closes debian bug #246035).
257 - minor i18n issue fixes.
258
2592.8 Thu Apr 8 22:44:36 CEST 2004
260 - replace PF_LOCAL by PF_UNIX (portability).
261 - try to detect -lnsl and -lsocket (portability).
262 - fix some minor bugs.
