249.16
25 - the font height is not augmented anymore when lineSpace is non zero.
26 - fix "new pagemap" vs. "delete pagemap" mismatch ([] vs. non-[]),
27 as diagnosed by clang.
28 - fix height mismatch between active and inactive cursor when
29 lineSpace is non zero (patch by Stanislav Seletskiy).
30 - make it compile with LOCAL_X_IS_UNIX again (reported by
31 nickfailure@gmail.com).
32
339.15 Sat Jan 21 13:36:56 CET 2012
34 - remove "using namespace std" because clang erroneously
35 thinks thats an error.
36 - finding a matching font (e.g. bold version of the base font)
37 was broken (reported by Eamon Walker).
38 - fix parsing of bg image styles. They really work now.
39 - fix blurring of bg image borders when using xrender.
40 - fix xrender blur on common xrender implementations that do
41 not behave correctly when the same pixmap is used as source
42 and destination in composite operations.
43 - fix regression that caused tabbed to compute the wrong size
44 for tabs.
45 - allow again an empty suffix in a keysym list spec (patch by
46 Sung Pae).
47 - unsupported support for sun studio's CC added.
48 - fix -C option on solaris.
49
509.14 Wed Dec 21 18:40:33 CET 2011
51 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: the urxvtd default socket path is now
52 $HOME/.urxvt/urxvtd-<nodename>.
53 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: the "list" keysym expansion now requires
54 loading of the "keysym-list" perl extension.
55 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: A scale value of 0 in the bg image
56 geometry no longer enables tiling, so as to make it possible
57 to disable both scaling and tiling.
58 - overhaul of the bg image operations. The old operations have
59 been deprecated in favour of elementary operations and
60 styles built on top of the new operations and scale/position
61 settings. (Emanuele Giaquinta).
62 - support for libafterimage is deprecated and will be removed
63 in the next release.
64 - fix a crash caused by selection_check not properly resetting
65 out-of-bounds mark values (can happen when extending a selection
66 while scrolling up in curses programs for example).
67 - do not move the selection when scrolling up and the selection is
68 outside the scrolling region (Emanuele Giaquinta).
69 - fix display of bold bright black (reported by Ben Winslow).
70 - fix memory leak when urgentOnBell is set (patch by Nathaniel
71 Filardo).
72 - fix a redraw bug that occurs when a bg pixmap is set and the
73 wm does not honour the size hints set by urxvt. Now urxvt
74 forces the size of the terminal window to be a multiple of
75 the cell size.
76 - sanitise the argument of SD / SU sequences. Fixes a possible
77 crash when the argument is big enough, red hat bug #711137
78 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
79 - correctly split long lines when scrolling.
80 - urxvt now looks for perl extensions also in $HOME/.urxvt/ext.
81 - add bell-command perl extension to execute a command when a
82 bell event occurs (Ryan Kavanagh).
83 - add set_urgency perl binding to set/reset the urgency hint.
84 - consume button release event in matcher (exg).
85 - keyboard accessible list of recent matches in matcher
86 (Bob Farrell).
87 - properly process 'keysym' sequences in tabbed when using
88 'focus follows mouse' and the focus is on the main window
89 but not on the active terminal window (patch by Martin
90 Pohlack).
91 - support for the freedesktop startup-notification protocol (patch by
92 Michael Stapelberg).
93 - the direction of VPR and VPB commands was reversed.
94 - fix alignment of inherited root pixmap when it is a different size
95 than the root window and the terminal window is off the left or top
96 edge (Mikachu).
97 - make $self visible in "eval perl expression" popup action, also
98 handle exceptions better.
99 - fix parsing of '-e' when it occurs as an option argument, such as in
100 'urxvt -title -e' (Emanuele Giaquinta).
101
1029.12 Wed Jun 29 14:34:28 CEST 2011
103 - fix regression in processing of SelectionNotify events.
104 urxvt would fail to request a selection if the owner did not
105 support the UTF8_STRING target.
106 - fix rendering of double width chars in certain circumstances, more
107 likely to happen if urxvt is compiled with 256 colors support as
108 urxvt runs out of fonts much earlier then. Fixes gentoo bug #358151
109 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
110 - restore support for 'list' syntax in keysym resources (requested by Sung Pae).
111 - always premultiply colour values - while this increases differences between
112 core fonts and xft, it is "more correct" in practical situations.
113 - disable PTYTTY_REENTRANT option - not needed for urxvt and saves a bit of code.
114 - remove lucidatypewriter from the list of fallback fonts, it was the only
115 non-xft non-cellfont in the list anyway.
116
1179.11 Mon May 2 10:34:46 CEST 2011
118 - fix compilation on GNU/Hurd, debian bug #624736.
119 - remove 'list' syntax for keysym resources, as it serves no useful purpose.
120 If you need it, poke us and provide a use case.
121 - fix alpha channel support. Premultiply alpha in colours if the visual
122 supports an alpha channel, as xrender expects premultiplied alpha
123 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
124 - fix reply to a selection request sent by an obsolete client
125 such as syncterm (patch by Marcin Cieslak).
126 - fix crash when the window is resized and the overlay is active
127 (Emanuele Giaquinta, reported by Ryan Kavanagh).
128 - match character-wise rather than byte-wise in selection
129 extension again. perl 5.8.9+ is required to avoid extreme
130 slowdowns. Fixes debian bugs #523072, #616463.
131 - fix a possible crash if the INCR transfer process for a
132 selection property timeouts and at least one chunk is
133 received. (Emanuele Giaquinta)
134 - work around a memory corruption bug in xorg's XrmSetDatabase (apparently
135 broken since http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-commit-diffs/2004-March/000239.html).
136 - fix memory corruption bug when custom command sequences bound to keys
137 were injected into an already-full pty input buffer.
138 - gdk-pixbuf is autodetected by default and preferred over libafterimage.
139 - do not prepend a newline to the selection text when the starting line
140 of the selection is not highlighted (Emanuele Giaquinta).
141 - don't swap perl env with real env, save and restore it, just in case
142 we ever get recursive perl invocations. also saves a bit of codespace
143 with gcc.
144 - fix various memory leaks (Emanuele Giaquinta).
145 - fix typo in kIC terminfo capability, debian bug #446444.
146 - document 'thickness' resource.
147 - fix debian bug #504817, to the extent possible.
148 - try to detect byte order at compile time, saves a couple of
149 hundred bytes, if your compiler is smart enough.
150 - add support for previewing the pasted data in confirm-paste
151 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
152 - added "newlines to spaces" option in selection-popup.
153 - actually enabled solaris event ports backend (was disabled by accident).
154 - revert to 38400 baud max., mission accomplished.
155 - no longer create scary "pty_fill: PLEASE REPORT" message, instead,
156 silently drain the input (problem is well understood now).
157 - no longer swallow rob nation's own graphics mode commands.
158
1599.10 Mon Dec 13 17:43:52 CET 2010
160 - the "schmorp=north korea dickey=south korea" release.
161 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: make OSC 20 simpler and more correct
162 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
163 - if options were compiled out, this could lead to the option
164 count to be defined wrongly. This is likely behind the
165 failures with gcc 4.5.
166 - explicitly depend on fontconfig and xrender when xft support
167 is enabled. Although the public Xft api uses types from
168 both, in Xft 2.2.0 these libs are private
169 dependencies only thanks to an idiotic behaviour of
170 pkg-config that was added to workaround cases like this one.
171 Fixes linking when using GNU ld with --as-needed or GNU gold
172 (based on patch by Jan Palus).
173 - fix minor memory leaks in urxvt and urxvtd.
174 - fix regression in urxvtd that prevented options from being correctly
175 set (reported by Michal Vaner).
176 - implement xterm's horribly broken 1005 mouse reporting mode,
177 and an alternative 1015 mode that works in non-utf-8 locales
178 and has fewer limitations.
179 - fix a possible bug where mouse notifications didn't work after
180 startup for the upper left corner.
181 - implement our own pixbuf to pixmap rendering to get rid of
182 dependency on buggy gdk-pixbuf-xlib. Only truecolor visuals
183 are supported (Emanuele Giaquinta).
184 - apply tinting before shading when both operations are requested.
185 Previously they were intermixed when lightening and the result
186 was inaccurate and confusing. Note that now a black tint yields a
187 completely black image, regardless of shading (Emanuele Giaquinta).
188 - avoid spurious redraws of the bg image when bg is transparent or
189 when using 'root' mode (Emanuele Giaquinta).
190 - fix build on XFree86.
191 - dynamically number options according to compiletime requirements.
192 For the extra saved byte. Or so. Yay.
193 - start options at one, not zero. Wastes a bit per terminal. Maybe.
194 saves 50 instruction bytes. Possibly.
195
1969.09 Sat Nov 13 01:39:07 CET 2010

205 - new on_bell perl hook (Emanuele Giaquinta).
206 - searchable-scrollback no longer ignores the first line
207 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
208 - properly set VSTATUS in termios for *BSD (reported by Ed Schouten).
209 - fix utmpx detection on upcoming FreeBSD 9.
210 - Use COMPOUND_TEXT encoding for WM_NAME/WM_ICON_NAME value when it
211 is not fully convertible to STRING (patch by James Cloos).
212 - fix a buffer overflow that would cause wrong key sequences to
213 be generated for numpad keys (introduced in 9.05).
214 - fix definition of sgr0 to work around limitations in luit.
215 - extend ISO 14755 5.4 mode to also print the font name of the
216 characters other than first one in the selected cell
217 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
218 - new iso14755 option to disable ISO 14755 at runtime
219 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
220 - make sure pagewise scrolling scrolls at least one line
221 (found by Mikachu).
222 - remove deprecated OSC 18 / 19 and make OSC 17 / 19 apply to
223 highlightColor / highlightTextColor (Emanuele Giaquinta).
224 - add highlightTextColor resource to change the foreground colour of

231 for 256 colours.
232 - add support for 256 colors (Emanuele Giaquinta, Marc Lehmann).
233 - add rxvt-unicode-256color terminfo and use it by default in 256 colors mode.
234 - update rxvt-unicode terminfo to state 7744 colour pairs to cover all
235 88*88 possible pairs.
236 - actually added macosx-clipboard-native, which should have been in
237 the 9.07 release but had been forgotten.
238 - fix hang if DECAWM is not set and there are not enough columns to insert a
239 character (Emanuele Giaquinta).
240 - cub1 ("backspace") will now respect wrapping when past the rightmost column,
241 working around a shortcoming of most tty line discipline's line editing.
242 - add support for grabbing the clipboard selection and extend
243 selection{_clear,_grab,} perl bindings to optionally work
244 on the clipboard selection (based on patch by Dana Jansens).
245 - no longer force CERASE to BACKSPACE - use the system default. affects
246 default value for VERASE only when no compatible setting for
247 backspacekey was given.

259 was faulty, skipping some possible combinations (found by
260 Mikachu).
261 - new -letterspace option, patch by Mark H. Wilkinson.
262 - enable --mlock option for urxvt with frills on
263 systems supporting it (patch by Russell Harmon).
264 - urxvt did not compile without frills enabled
265 (analysed by Matthew Rosewarne).
266 - correctly reset the mbstate after an illegal
267 input sequence when handling terminal output (Emanuele Giaquinta).
268 - avoid redrawing wide characters with combining enabled on every
269 refresh (reported by Mikachu).
270 - fix a typo preventing the ISO-646.1991 character set from being
271 recognized (http://achurch.org/patch-pile/).
272 - better warning for x11 font encoding detection failures, also,
273 try to deduce encoding from both font properties and name
274 (adapted from http://achurch.org/patch-pile/).
275 - resizing the window with the scrollbar disabled via the escapes
276 sequence could make the window bigger again (Mikachu).

285 - work around arrogant bsd idiocies again: netbsd spills the default
286 namespace with lots of symbols "for gnu/gcc compatibility" even
287 though neither of them does it, and then calls the rest of the world
288 in need of fixing. go figure.
289 - on_keyboard_command is on_user_command (patch by Michael Witten).
290 - setting the selection from perl will now reset the selection screen
291 to the current screen. the screen can be manipulated using
292 the new ->selection_screen method.

308 when part of them was deleted (tracked down by Miroslav Lichvar).
309 - artificially enlargen the previous character at the end of a line
310 when trying to output a character that doesn't fit. looks ugly, but

321 monopolising the whole process by outputting a lot of text.
322 - try to work around linux first breaking sched_yield and now breaking
323 the only known workaround.
324 - new option -icon to set _NET_WM_ICON (based on patch by Frank Schmitt).
325 - initialise the as visual only on demand, instead of unconditionally,
326 to save memory in the common case of not using visual gimmicks.

328 client windows on hint property updates by temporarily
329 disabling size hints.

331 and make hard RIS and DECSTR both reset more private modes, such
332 as mouse reporting.
333 - redundantly clear mouse reporting and a few other states in
334 tput init/tput reset, for older urxvts.
335 - partial/full clear screens did cause flickering and possibly pixel
336 droppings when urxvt viewed the scrollback buffer.
337 - use current rendition style in DCH sequence.
338 - the 132/80 mode switch no longer forces a screen reset.
339 - add an osc sequence to change the border colour (Emanuele Giaquinta).

352 with more than 31 file descriptors on non-linux 64 bit systems.
353 - correctly reset the multibyte state to the initial one

380
3819.0 Fri Jan 25 19:34:04 CET 2008
382 - fix a crash bug where urxvtd would crash when urxvtc was called
383 with wrong arguments (I wish debian maintainers in general would
384 report bugs and their proposed fixes to the original package maintainers
385 instead of sitting on them for good measure to see if anybody notices).
386 - drawing xft compose characters was causing garbage to be drawn.
387 - correctly clear xft character background in all cases.
388 - implement bracketed paste mode (xterm private mode 2004).

404
4058.9 Mon Dec 24 07:51:40 CET 2007

407 when the command exited but only on the next X event.
408 - changed terminfo file not to use application keypad mode.
409 - fix the issue where making a selection in one urxvtd window
410 would not clear it visually in another.

417
4188.8 Sat Dec 15 19:40:39 CET 2007
419 - option -C was aliased to all unsupported options, activating
420 options that shouldn't be compiled in, leading to interesting
421 effects.
422 - updated libev, working around a bug in linux 2.4, curing the
423 symptom of urxvt not closing its window on shell exit. also
424 fixes a problem with urxvt not refreshing.
425 - the text blink callback was called even when no blinking
426 text was visible.
427 - pre-8.4 slipwheeling behaviour has been reinstated, with
428 some minor improvements.
429 - streamlined x events processing to only flush once per
430 display and not once per terminal window.
431 - quite a bit of minor code cleanups and codesize optimisations.
432
4338.7 Sun Nov 25 10:23:49 CET 2007
434 - update libev with an important bugfix that would cause crashes
435 when closing windows (when using rxvtd, and update is recommended).
436 - do not compile in the block builtin graphics with --disable-frills.
437
4388.6 Fri Nov 23 14:10:57 CET 2007
439 - upgrade libev to disable kqueue on anything but netbsd as it
440 seems to be broken everywhere else w.r.t. ptys.
441 - allow for spurious event notifications, as at least epoll and
442 especially solaris ports like to lie about them (symptoms:
443 urxvt "hangs" until there is some x11 related activity).
444 - -keysym command line options are now subjected to xlib parsing.
445 - add 'xrm' option analogous to Xt one.
446
4478.5a Wed Nov 21 10:16:33 CET 2007
448 - make it compile with --disable-transparency.
449
4508.5 Wed Nov 21 05:19:20 CET 2007
451 - expect major portability issues in this release: please test and report.
452 - converted from the veritable io manager event loop to
453 the high performance libev (http://software.schmorp.de/pkg/libev).
454 - minor tuning to the perl selection (include single words and more quoting chars).
455 - fix memory leak in pixmap code.
456 - fix a serious bug while setting the XIM destroy callback
457 on (typical) 64 bit systems.
458 - automove-background functionality re-implemented internally using :root op in pixmap
459 geometry string. For example: rxvt -pixmap "image.jpg;:root"
460 - do not link rxvtc against every lib on the planet anymore.
461 - parallel builds should work once more.
462
4638.4 Sat Oct 27 14:02:13 CEST 2007
464 - overhaul of the transparency/pixmap code (sasha).
465 - fix possible race between visual bell and poweron.
466 (reported by Martin von Gagern, gentoo?).
467 - urxvt -e no longer crashes the child.
468 - fixed some minor memleaks on incorrect usage or
469 missing DISPLAY.
470 - implement xterm 1002/1003 mouse tracking modes (exg).
471 - source code organisational cleanups (exg).
472 - updated io_manager.
473
4748.3 Wed Aug 1 20:21:31 CEST 2007
475 - new option: skipScroll/-ss, enabled by default.
476 - go with the times and expect x11 library files in /usr/lib, not
477 /usr/X11R6/lib.

486 digit (exg).
487 - better option handling, support more than 30 options (exg).
488 - nuke reconf script, serves no purpose anymore.
489 - fixed and documented matcher/on_user_command processing in matcher
490 extension (tpope).
491 - compile out of the box on Solaris 10 (exg).
492 - fix MappingNotify events (reported by Stephan Walter).
493 - zero-initialise mwmhints, this seems to solve all sorts of minor
494 problems.
495
4968.2 Sat Feb 17 21:35:28 CET 2007
497 - fix make depend in src/, reported by exg.
498 - fixed typo in urxvt::GET_CUSTOM, causing the result to be wrong.
499 (patch by Sergey Vlasov).
500 - unbundled iom perl interface somewhat.
501 - scrollbar-xterm now uses the selected scrollColor instead of fg
502 (found by Aiviru).
503 - disabled linux kernel bug workaround again: disabling it gives
504 a 50% speed hit on affected machines, while enabling it gives
505 a similar speed hit to screen, which is likely the more common
506 case to work around for :/
507 - urxvt::rend2mask perl function, and utilization of it by matcher
508 (patch by Moshe Kamensky).
509 - use perl:matcher on a keysym to open most recently displayed URL.
510 - with matcher, when multiple patterns match, last wins, not first.
511 - fix make and make install with srcdir != builddir (exg).
512 - updated bundled libptytty to fix a bug where the tty would be kept
513 open (see the libptytty ChangeLog for details).
514 - delay setting the IUTF8 flag to after the tty settings have been
515 set so its value does not get lost (reported and analysed by Andrei
516 Paskevich).
517 - rip out support for obsolete sgtty.h interface.
518 - rip out support for non-POSIX termios variants.
519 - update libptytty.
520 - update iom.C, make it call ptytty::sanitise_stdfd on init.
521 - when !XFT, change rounding of colours to use a less correct formula to
522 meet user expectancies (#aaa becomes #a000a000a000 not #9f9f9f9f9f9f).
523 - change the starting offset of the pixmap set with backgroundPixmap
524 from (50,50) to (0,0) (exg).
525 - fix a typo in button_release, now meta-button2 request the value of
526 the Clipboard selection as it should (patch by Serge Koksharov).
527 - fix a bug in drawing a cell with a nonspacing char when using an xft
528 font with inheritPixmap and tintColor (exg).
529
5308.1 Thu Dec 7 22:27:25 CET 2006
531 - ケリスマスプレゼント - zomg!!1, it's too early!!!
532 - fix the assumption that chars < 256 are single-width. Now
533 only assume this for codepoints 32 to 126 (reported by Dai.H.).
534 - $term->strwidth returned wide chars as width 1, because some jerk
535 confused min and max. Fixing this also fixes xim-onthespot.
536 Reported by Takano Akio.
537 - secondaryScroll is now enabled by default (as per the manpage),
538 reported by exg.
539 - correct the description of [percent]color rgba format in the manpage.
540 - incorporated macosx-clipboard extension by Samuel Ljungkvist.

542 - updated compose table to unicode 5.0.0.
543
5448.0 Thu Nov 2 18:35:19 CET 2006
545 - combining characters cleared the area instead of creating an overlay,
546 thus losing the ability to draw combining characters properly in most
547 circumstances (reported by exg).
548 - specified fonts were incorrectly morphed to bold/italic according to the
549 basefont, even if explicitly specified (tracked down by tpope).
550 - fixed urxvt::strwidth to calculate width in the same way as screen.C.
551 - fix a crash caused by passing negative widths to overlay functions.
552 - added 'matcher' extension by tpope, replacing the mark-urls extension.
553 - improve url regex to match anything www.* (tpope).
554 - fixed bug with outline cursor color being wrong after xft fonts.
555 - update to libptytty-1.0.
556 - give proper diagnostic when RXVT_SOCKET is too long instead of
557 corrupting the stack (patch by exg).
558 - display current terminal locale in option menu.
559 - urxvtd no longer crashes when the client sends an inaccessible
560 working directory (reported by Roland Baer, possibly fixes gentoo
561 bug #143985).
562 - fixed many minor issues reported by Roland Baer.
563 - Leonid Khramov spotted a minor glitch in rxvtfont.C that
564 should not have any consequences, but was buggy nonetheless.
565 - manpage fix by exg.
566
5677.9 Mon Aug 7 18:16:07 CEST 2006
568 - fix the crashing bug people encountered with 7.8 + urxvtd + perl
569 + transparency. Ought to fix debian bug #380348.
570 - fix urxvtc.1.pod: it actually claimed -pty-fd would not work. But
571 it does! :->
572 - rxvt_fatal() in case the locale string is too long for our static buffer.
573 - fixed many, many, typos in the manpages (patch supplied by ves).
574
5757.8 Mon Jul 17 21:00:46 CEST 2006
576 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: this version will always read ~/.Xdefaults,
577 earlier versions only read it if display-resources (usually from
578 .Xresources) are not set. This avoids the #1 FAQ ("why isn't my
579 resource used") and seems to be logical behaviour, too. .Xdefaults
580 resources have a lower priority than display-specific resources.
581 - add "kuake" perl extension that does a similar thing to the kuake
582 terminal emulator (see man urxvtperl).
583 - use less "correct" color scaling that is compatible with libX11 and
584 Xft (avoids off-by-one colors resulting in striped backgrounds).
585 - the "depth" resource is now respected.
586 - preset the searchable-scrollback pattern with "(?i)" to default search
587 to case-insensitivity. Will automatically be cleared when typing an
588 uppercase character.
589 - add FORCE_UNBUFFERED_XFT define to features.h.
590 - re-enabled highlightcolor support with --enable-frills, based on
591 a patch by Martin Stubenschrott.
592 - double-buffered xft drawing did suffer from pixel offset issues
593 when pixmap transparency was enabled.
594 - strategically add # to the url-match regexes, as we really want to
595 match common URIs not common URLs. Reported by Aaron Griffin.
596 - moved on_osc_seq to on_osc_seq_perl and added a more
597 generic osc_seq.
598 - fix a bug causing double callback invocations when perl hooks
599 were invoked recursively.
600 - the automove-background extension now properly works when the
601 pixmap gets reset with an osc sequence (sqweek).
602 - selection-pastebin did not work properly with non-latin1-characters.
603 - apply colorUL only when the text colour is the default fg
604 (patch by Wu Fengguang).
605 - removed rxvtlib.h from the tarball, it had no reason to be there
606 (spotted by Decklin Foster).
607 - fix compiling with TRANSPARENT but !XPM_BACKGROUND, as reported
608 by omatunto_.
609 - slap in a using namespace std, might help on platforms that don't
610 follow C++ closely enough.
611 - fix mailto url regex, spotted within milliseconds by Jost Krieger.
612 - applied fade_color_update_func.patch by WU Fengguang.
613 - fix a bug where (due to an optimisation in av_delete), hiding the
614 bottom-most overlay would hide two overlays.
615
6167.7 Tue Feb 21 12:32:49 CET 2006
617 - use double-buffered drawing (xft fonts only). On many driver/hardware
618 combination this actually increases xft drawing speed, at the expense
619 of more network bandwidth and slight nausea on the side of the author.
620 - readline perl extension now requires shift-click instead of a normal
621 click, and eats the click.
622 - tabbed perl extension now supports -e.
623 - disabled graphics-exposures on the main drawing GC, report any
624 refresh bugs please.
625 - improve property handling for -pe tabbed: avoid unnecessary property
626 changes (for kde's benefit) at the expense of extra round-trips,
627 improve size hint setting.
628 - modified XIM according to a patch sent by Takano Akio that sets
629 the preedit rectangle for OverTheSpot, which helps some input methods
630 to correctly position their preedit window.
631 - un-optimise the line clearing on newly scrolled-in lines a bit: the
632 former reasoning was that any fg colour on default bg looks the same
633 in empty spaces, but that's not true when reversing (e.g. selection),
634 so also check for matching fg colours. This fixes the problem where
635 selecting newly scrolled-in lines would exhibit wrong colours.
636 - fix a bug in the perl interface causing focus in events to generate
637 focus out perl events, causing bad focus effects with -pe tabbed.
638 - fix a race resulting in a crash on exiting.
639 - fix a with --disable-xft that caused xfreecolors to be called on
640 colors never allocated, resulting in aborts (reported by Paco-Paco).
641 - resources on non-initial screens weren't refetched correctly
642 (reported by Paco-Paco).
643 - fix a bug in xcopyarea pass and _disable_ it, as it seems not to be
644 working in either rxvt-unicode nor in the original rxvt.
645 - removed undocumented -exec alias for the -e option.
646
6477.6 Fri Feb 10 08:52:36 CET 2006
648 - changed interpretation of [alpha] colour prefix.
649 - +option now really sets the option to default, instead of using the
650 resource value.
651 - options that require an argument now really _require_ an argument.
652 - the tabbed extension now forwards focus and key events to the
653 relevant tab window.
654 - tab colours are now configurable and have sensible defaults
655 (initial patch by hednod).
656 - option menu is extendable, readline, selection and
657 selection-autotransform can now be disabled/enabled at runtime.
658 - forcing a configure event to tabbed subwindows with -pe tabbed, for
659 the benefit of automove-background.
660 - the automove-background extension added a wrong constant offset.
661 - force refresh of XA_RESOURCE_STRING on virtual reconnect.
662 - return exit status 2 in urxvtc when urxvtd couldn't be contacted.
663 - the linux yield hack is back, now using usleep, and enabled only on
664 __linux__.
665 - further round trip eliminations in the !XFT case by remembering
666 the colour components.
667 - plain scrollbar works better with -sr.
668 - fixed half-shadow scrollbar look.
669 - more colour rtt optimisations.
670 - properly(?) free colours on window close.
671 - reorganised the FAQ into multiple sections.
672 - add ISO646.1991-IRV to the list of supported codesets.
673 - minor libptytty update.
674
6757.5 Tue Jan 31 15:15:43 CET 2006
676 - further improvements to the careful mode detection, and font width
677 detection:
678 - fully double-wide fonts will now be correctly treated,
679 - overlap detection was improved.
680 - detect totally broken fonts (usually synthesized by xft).
681 - careful mode forced refresh sometimes clashed with blinking,
682 causing unnecessary screen redraws.
683 - better handling of XFT combining characters.
684 - enable antialiasing for some replacement fonts, as they
685 might get used for other encodings which really need it, later.
686 - remove spacing=100 from all default fonts, as this creates totally
687 weird spacing (5 times normal) with xft.
688 - removed iso10646 fallback, as xorgs iso10646 encoded fonts are mostly
689 broken.
690 - removed gnu unifont fallback, all combining characters are broken.
691 - replace named colours by xorg's rgb.txt equivalents, to
692 reduce round trip time on startup, and short-cut allocation
693 of rgb:rr/gg/bb for xft.
694 - short-cut allocation of rgb values in the xlib case
695 (patch by Paco-Paco).
696 - overhauled color management: smaller codesize, alpha support.
697 - support "rgba:rrrr/gggg/bbbb/aaaa" color specifications and
698 an "[alpha]" prefix.
699 - try to work around Xft and Xrender forcing everything to be 100%
700 transparent. Long Live Xft!
701 - do not include X11/Intrinsic.h anymore, directly use
702 Xlib/Xutil/Xresource directly.
703 - try to find a nearest matching color when color allocation fails
704 on a pseudocolor screen.
705 - SYNCCVS: compared to rxvt-cvs 2006-01-28, no relevant changes.
706 - fix version report (DA) (which was unfortunately broken).
707 - changed version number report again, now to emulate xterm closer.
708 - added the OSC sequence 702 to detect the urxvt version number.
709 - small configure updates.
710 - further RTT optimisations.
711 - backported clean-up patches for makefiles and documentation from
712 the debian package.
713 - updated doc/rxvt-unicode.spec file. It's still not maintained here,
714 but much newer than the old one.
715
7167.4 Sat Jan 28 15:26:27 CET 2006
717 - screen background wasn't always erased properly when scrolling,
718 - re-enabled clearing optimisation disabled in 7.4pre.
719 - small configure updates for libptytty.
720 - fixed version options: line output.
721 - removed stoopid debugging message left in the code.
722
7237.3 Wed Jan 25 22:47:35 CET 2006
724 - don't let iso14755 or mouse reporting get into the way of perl
725 (could lead to global grabs never being cleared).
726 - experimental OnTheSpot editing support (-pe xim-onthespot).
727 - moved Shift-Button2 paste combination to Meta-Button2.
728 - the cutchars resource will now be respected and used by the
729 selection extension.
730 - added the "remote-clipboard" extension which just runs external
731 commands to fetch and store the selection data.
732 - added -depth switch that tries to get a different visual depth
733 than the default (replaces the old PREFER_24_BIT logic).
734 - removed (unused) arabic presentation form composing sequences.
735 - be more strict when deciding that a core font glyph is too wide and
736 needs the careful rendering mode.
737 - allow more leeway for italic fonts when deciding that a character is
738 too wide and needs careful mode.
739 - redraw even more characters around characters using careful mode.
740 - made selection-pastebin fully asynchronous.
741 - reduced number of server turnarounds at startup by allocating
742 atoms only once per display.
743 - renamed on_keyboard_command to on_user_command.
744 - changed version sos (ESC [ > c) response to be more compatible with
745 xterm.
746
7477.2 Sun Jan 22 21:58:16 CET 2006
748 - bugfix: urxvt (not urxvtd) did not correctly handle multiple
749 environments necessary, which resulted in segfaults within
750 getenv (reproducible: urxvt -fn 9x15, open a menu once,
751 ctrl-shift-672c).
752 - bugfix: the selection speedup in in 7.1 unfortunately caused
753 non-ascii characters to enlarge/move the selection.
754 - bugfix: resizing sometimes leaked lines from the secondary to
755 the primary screen.
756 - bugfix: reducing window size while large amounts of text were output
757 could lead to an assertion failure.
758 - added "tabbed" extension that provides a crude tabbed terminal.
759 - added "readline" extension that allows cursor positioning
760 via mouse clicks.
761 - now it is possible to insert the value of the CLIPBOARD selection
762 with shift - mouse button 2.
763 - fixed the automove-background extension to ignore coordinates
764 in non-synthetic events.
765 - created a separate libpty for portable and secure
766 pty/tty/utmp/wtmp/lastlog handling, and include it in rxvt-unicode.
767 - the non-terminfo visual bell now works asynchronously, so
768 continuous ASCI BELs in one terminal do no longer monopolise the
769 whole urxvt[d] process.
770 - support some *BSD makes (for the time being, gnu make is a safe bet).
771 - work around bugs in FreeBSD's gcc.
772 - implemented some *BSD fixes in configure.
773 - removed support for obsolete offix dnd protocol.
774
7757.1 Thu Jan 19 20:25:34 CET 2006
776 - setuid/setgid operation is now _encouraged_: security has been
777 improved by moving privileged operations into a separate process
778 and permanently dropping privileges within the terminal. This
779 makes it possible to remove security checks from the perl code
780 and gives a much safer feeling when urxvt needs to run with
781 special privileges.
782 - perl taint checking disabled, as urxvt no longer runs setuid/setgid
783 itself.
784 - new perl extension automove-background that can be used to get
785 the same effect as pseudo-transparency with any pixmap.
786 - new perl extension example: perl/selection-pastebin, can be used to
787 e.g. upload the selection to a webserver and generate a url, or
788 similar stuff.
789 - use the scrollback buffer even when the scroll region doesn't
790 span the whole screen, as long as it starts at row 0. Helps
791 for programs displaying a status line at the bottom.
792 - selection popup now shows selection in dec/hex/oct.
793 - perl/selection: matching on unicode characters in the selection
794 code was O(n²), which equals infinity in some degenerate cases
795 :-> Matching is now done on UTF-8, which makes it almost instant.
796 - perl/selection, perl/selection-autotransform: regexes are now
797 being interpreted in the locale urxvt was started.
798 - implemented override-redirect option and enabled it on menus,
799 as kwin puts our windows behind the terminal (what a shoddy wm).
800 - fixed struct utmp check in configure for OpenBSD.
801 - complete overhaul of the pty/utmp management stuff and configure
802 (Emanuele Giaquinta=exg).
803 - add tsl/fsl and related capabilities to the terminfo description,
804 to set the window title.
805 - swap the environment in some more cases. This hopefully fixes
806 some segfaults that might be caused by xft asking for env variables
807 at the wrong time.
808 - removed src/strings.C and src/menubar.C. No menubar support
809 anymore.
810 - removed all traces of SMOOTH_REFRESH.
811 - nuked QNX support.
812 - made some fixes to xpm offset and scaling code.
813 - perl-overlays and refresh hooks were not applied in correct order.
814 - changed coordinate-system of view_start/nsaved to be top to bottom.
815 - iom extended to support listening for child exits.
816
8177.0 Fri Jan 13 14:02:18 CET 2006
818 - added sections for DISTRIBUTION MAINTAINERS and about
819 SETUID/SETGID to the FAQ.
820 - selection, searchable-scrollback, selection-popup and
821 option-popup extensions enabled by default.
822 - increased xft drawing speed for problematic fonts. The effect
823 will likely be small as 99% of the xft slowness is server-related.
824 - perl: much increased functionality, better overlays, popup support
825 and much much more.
826 - perl: urxvt::line now can set via ->t and ->r.
827 - perl: changed interpretation of --perl-ext-common and -pe.
828 - perl: finally implemented --perl-eval.
829 - perl: non-blocking anyevent support.
830 - perl: run tainted and ignore perl-eval/perl-lib if started
831 setuid/setgid.
832 - free the resource database: this plugs a massive memory leak. As a
833 side effect, it also gets rid of XGetDefault calls.
834 - free one of the cursors, fixes a small memory leak.
835 - built-in (as opposed to terminfos) visual bell was broken/too fast.
836 - applied minor cleanups by Ladislav Michnovic.
837 - applied pty handling cleanups and improvements (Emanuele Giaquinta).
838 - mark-urls launch-on-click by jepler.
839 - removed "small" resource parsing function, as it wasn't really
840 compatible, and not really small either.
841 - removed PATH_ENV and PATH file search support.
842 - removed support for locale-specific app-defaults file.
843 - fixed a bug where out-of-bounds colour sequences could lead
844 to crashes.
845 - limit colour changing to the standard 88 palette instead of all
846 colours.
847 - XTerm_Color01 sequence returned wrong results in query mode.
848 - iom.C now checks against destructed io_manager when unregistering.
849
8506.3 Wed Jan 4 22:37:10 CET 2006
851 - SECURITY FIX: on systems using openpty, permissions were
852 not correctly updated on the tty device and were left as
853 world-readable and world-writable (likely in original rxvt,
854 too), and were not restored properly. Affected are only
855 systems where non-unix ptys were used (such as most BSDs, not
856 GNU/Linux). (found, patched and debugged by Ryan Beasley).
857 - meta8 support was forcefully enabled in most configurations.
858 restored configurability of this (useless) feature (reported
859 by Mikachu).
860 - optionally embed a perl interpreter, which can be used for more
861 intelligent/customized selection support, visual feedback,
862 menus, tabs etc. See the the urxvtperl manpage, the -pe option,
863 perl*-resources and keysym resources. Not everything is there yet.
864 - try to be more clever about differing font sizes and their ascent.
865 Not guaranteed to work, but works better in most cases now.
866 - fix directory permissions on install.
867 - implemented option to disable built-in line drawing characters
868 and fall back to the font ones (patch by Martin Pohlack).
869 - disabled sched_yield support: the linux version is just too useless
870 (it schedules nice'd processes before the own one for extended
871 periods). Too bad, it could reduce system time by a factor of 5 here.
872
8736.2 Mon Jan 2 16:03:01 CET 2006
874 - implemented intensityStyles option which enables/disables bold/blink
875 selecting high intensity foreground/background colours, suggested by
876 Chuck Blake.
877 - move iso14755 character feedback box out of the way if it would
878 obscure the mouse cursor position.
879 - replaced callback.h by a fixed version from gvpe that correctly
880 returns the callback result (affects new -pty-fd semantics in urxvtc
881 on a few architectures). Reported by darix.
882 - include one trailing space in rectangular selections to indicate
883 the inserted newline (yeah, weird, but visually more pleasing).
884 - try to use sched_yield to (drastically) improve terminal data
885 transfer efficiency.
886 - further minor cleanups.
887
8886.1 Tue Dec 27 13:23:40 CET 2005
889 - update iso8859-7 table (euro and drachma round-trip et al.).
890 - fix a crash when the selection scrolls out of the scrollback
891 while the user still drags.
892 - selections that were partially scrolled out of the window were
893 not drawn correctly.
894 - lines newly scrolled in were not initialized properly, leading
895 to extremely long lines and (hopefully) some segfaults.
896 - iso14755 overlay position was wrong.
897 - iso14755 overlay now displays rendition info, too.
898 - use unicode white space class instead of hardcoded values for
899 stripping whitespace.
900 - do whitespace stripping on rectangular selections.
901 - slight cleanups in src/features.h.
902
9036.0 Sat Dec 24 13:58:56 CET 2005
904 - make it compile without SMART_RESIZE again.
905 - enable slow link support by default.
906 - fix relative cursor-positioning not respecting scrolling regions
907 (also a bug in original rxvt).
908 - initialize termios structure to zero when fetching it fails
909 (see http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=84647 for a
910 partial patch).
911 - bump max columns/rows to 10000 each.
912 - bump max savelines to 10000000.
913 - -pty-fd now passes the urxvtc fd to the urxvtd process.
914 - avoid linking against -lnsl/-lsocket/-lxpg4 unless necessary.
915 - major code cleanup (still not complete, though).
916 - implement -hold option.
917 - _major_ rewrite of internal buffer handling:
918 - re-flow on resize, lines get wrapped instead of winged.
919 - circular line buffer (substantially speeds up scrolling).
920 - slightly less code + data memory usage per terminal.
921 - slight overall speed improvements.
922 - considerably improved code clarity.
923 - partial-screen scrolls no longer end up in the scrollback
924 buffer.
925
9265.9 Sat Dec 17 21:53:17 CET 2005
927 - fix a bug in the menu code of unknown impact, found by darix.
928 - clean up signal handling to be global, not per terminal
929 (matters only for rxvtd).
930 - fix small typoe in rxvt.1 (found by Mike Fabian).
931 - don't crash when broken xft/fontconfig/freetype versions return
932 bogus data, ignore the xft font instead (experienced on suse).
933
9345.8 Tue Oct 25 22:21:45 CEST 2005
935 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: many configure options are now on by default.
936 If you want the old behaviour, try:
937 configure --disable-everything <your enable options>
938 - INCOMPATIBLE CHANGE: -fade changed its meaning to comply with
939 the documentation and common sense: when upgrading, replace your
940 percentage by 100-percentage.
941 - integrated "fade to specific colour" patch by Martin Parm.
942 - slow down the internal visual bell (delay by 20ms) and update
943 the terminfo flash code to use the same delay. This is
944 synchronous, so many bells might inhibit screen updates in other
945 windows.
946 - text with background==foreground colour gets displayed with default
947 bg/fg now when in reverse video, so it can be seen when selecting.
948 - allow koi8r* as x11 encoding name for koi8r (Nikita Danilov).
949 - removed undocumented inheritPixmapforce option.
950 - replaced INSTALL file.
951
9525.7 Wed Jul 13 04:46:33 CEST 2005
953 - implement some useful (hopefully) options for rxvtd.
954 - separate and improved rxvtc(1) and rxvtd(1) manpages.
955 - fix a bug that caused segfaults on startup on systems that do
956 not support local unix connections, e.g cygwin. (btw, I didn't
957 even know about the -rootless and -multiwindow Cygwin/X modes).
958 - large amounts of text without control sequences or newlines
959 could almost freeze output. This has been fixed by adding extra
960 refreshes in these cases (also a problem in original rxvt).
961
9625.6 Sun Jun 26 22:11:13 CEST 2005
963 - R_SB_RXVT bitset value was 0, so rxvt scrollbar was initialised
964 every time resulting in display errors (original rxvt also affected).
965 Reported by Jasmin Buchert.
966 - font names are now considered to be utf-8 encoded (xft apparently
967 uses this convention. X Core fonts might not, but it should be rare).
968 Affects display in iso14755 box.
969 - rewrote the low-level xft drawing function ("xft backend" for the
970 hipper parts of the world) to hopefully cope better with proportional
971 chars mixed with fixed-width ones.
972 - rxvt is now much more careful (read: slower) with potentially
973 overlapping xft characters. It usually overshoots and redraws
974 more than required, but that's better than undershooting and
975 cutting pieces off of characters.
976 - rxvt is now more restrictive in what font heights it accepts for
977 fonts that will likely overshoot or undershoot lines.
978 - fix a cosmetic problem with the unfocused cursor on a wide character
979 at the end of the line (reported by Mikachu).
980 - wide characters not fitting into the end of the line will be
981 output in the next line (reported by Mikachu).
982 - added doc/solaris9.patch by Ewgenij Starostin.
983
9845.5 Sat Apr 23 22:31:36 CEST 2005
985 - re-enabled modifier state matching as in 5.3, but implement
986 a new builtin: keysym style that simply reverts to the built-in
987 meaning of the given key.
988 - use scrollcolor for next scrollbar instead of hardcoded antiquewhite
989 (patch by Martin Edlman).
990
9915.4 Mon Apr 18 00:33:31 CEST 2005
992 - match modifier state exactly in custom keyboard code.
993 this is necessary because it has no knowledge about
994 built-in mappings and so will overwrite them. the priority-code
995 will be re-enabled when this has changed, so watch out.
996 - cursor blinking now depends on frills.
997 - underline cursor mode (frills, -uc).
998 - implement special value (*g*) for pointerBlankDelay
999 to disable it.
1000
10015.3 Sun Mar 13 00:20:44 CET 2005
1002 - fix a bug that allowed to overflow a buffer via a long
1003 escape sequence, which is probably exploitable (fix by
1004 Rob Holland / Yoann Vandoorselaere / Gentoo Audit Team).
1005 - Custom key mappings no longer confuse mouse buttons
1006 with modifiers.
1007 - use XmbSetWMProperties instead of XSetWMProperties.
1008 - properly update WM_LOCALE.
1009 - implement _NET_WM_PING protocol.
1010 - implemented escape sequences to move the scrollback buffer view
1011 and clear the scrollback buffer.
1012
10135.2 Sun Feb 20 01:48:59 CET 2005
1014 - new option -pty-fd that makes the terminal a slave
1015 that uses an existing pty for I/O instead of starting
1016 a command.
1017 - implement enough of XEMBED to allow for correct focus.
1018 - added doc/embed-tk, an embedding example in Perl/Tk,
1019 and doc/rxvt-tabbed, a primitive tabbed shell implemented
1020 in Perl/Gtk2.
1021 - fix assertion failure ("crash") on mousewheel-scrolling
1022 when the terminal height is small, by removing the assert.
1023 (reported by Mikael Magnusson=Mikachu).
1024 - SYNCCVS. backported bugfixes done to rxvt
1025 (sourceforge bugs #1028739, #1028732), except for
1026 pts/%s fix as it seems to collide with freebsd,
1027 and sourceforge bug #954654, which is not necessary.
1028 - change terminfo file to not clobber G1 when using
1029 line-drawing characters, as this seems to mess
1030 with EUC-JP (it will clobber G0, but G0 practically
1031 needs to be US-ASCII all the time).
1032 - toggle default application keypad/cursor mode to help
1033 some apps who fail to set the correct mode.
1034 - check for WM_PROTOCOLS type in ClientMessage as to
1035 not destroy the window for other types of messages.
1036 - remove shared library (or any library) support - it is
1037 of no use currently (and -embed is a better way to embed
1038 rxvt-unicode).
1039 - get rid of the intpro files.
1040
10415.1 Tue Feb 15 17:13:27 CET 2005
1042 - fix a bug when parsing fontnames and another one
1043 for empty keymaps which could result in crashes
1044 (Kuang-che Wu).
1045 - new option: -embed (frills). somebody could write a simple
1046 tk script to make a tab'able terminal now...
1047 - only warn on X errors and _try_ to continue (frills).
1048 - add COPYING back, which got lost somehow.
1049 - after deciding that LSM is dead, remove all traces of it,
1050 along with other, similar, cleanups.
1051 - _try_ to react sensibly to some non-monotonic time changes.
1052 - don't crash in urxvtc when getcwd fails (reported by Paco-Paco).
1053 - tweak font searching algorithm a bit to be faster and more
1054 compatible with older rxvt-unicode versions when multiple fonts
1055 match (reported by Paco-Paco).
1056 - urxvtd tries to stay in "/" whenever possible.
1057
10585.0 Fri Feb 11 18:31:48 CET 2005
1059 - document a race-free hack to start urxvtd.
1060 - document all(?) environment variables used and set by rxvt.
1061 - bring xgetdefault-style resource file ordering more in line with
1062 Xt, and document it in rxvt(1).
1063 - correctly use screen-dependent resources when --enable-xgetdefault,
1064 and also fix some memory bugs (thanks to Thierry Reding for
1065 his patience and time in tracking this down).
1066 - bring own resource parsing more in line with X resource parsing,
1067 most notably, don't remove double quotes.
1068 - compile fix for freebsd (no ut_id) (Thierry Thomas).
1069 - clean up utmp and pty on X I/O errors and signals (idea
1070 by Joël Riou).
1071 - "un"document -xrm, it never really worked, was only
1072 available with --enable-xgetdefault, is not necessary
1073 and is surprisingly hard to implement.
1074 - shaved off some code segment size.
1075 - various code cleanups.
1076 - more keysym-mapping fixes.
1077
10784.9 Thu Feb 3 09:52:03 CET 2005
1079 - nuke out utmp entries completely. Should be fixed in
1080 original rxvt, too. (reported by James Michael Fultz).
1081 - resizes will now correctly refresh the displayed text when
1082 -pixmap is active.
1083 - new option/resource imFont.
1084 - document --tripleclickwords/-tcw.
1085 - select logical instead of physical lines when doing a triple-click.
1086 - reordered help listing to group similar options together.
1087 - handle SIGINT the same way as SIGTERM (reported by Joël Riou).
1088 - fix a bug introduced while applying the keyboard patch
1089 (WU Fengguang).
1090 - document all window-op sequences (rxvt.7.) and more keysym
1091 examples (rxvt.1).
1092 - removed src/test completely.
1093 - renamed keysym 'proto:'-prefix to 'command:'.
1094
10954.8 Tue Jan 18 02:23:57 CET 2005
1096 - added a patch by WU Fengguang that makes the keyboard
1097 highly configurable (e.g. locale changes, custom escape
1098 sequences, and more). See keysym resource in rxvt(1).
1099 - remove default key sequence for unknown keys again, as this
1100 can be achieved by customizing the keyboard now.
1101 - fix some freeing problems when destroying the rxvt_display,
1102 resulting in segfaults.
1103 - don't crash when the saved cursor position doesn't fit on the
1104 screen (wrong assert in original rxvt, reported by ikaro).
1105 - fix signed/unsigned bugs on wc<->mb conversions.
1106 - reset slipwheel scrolling speed when reaching the top or bottom
1107 (Mikael Magnusson).
1108 - for core fonts, use ascent + descent when a font is loaded,
1109 and PIXEL_SIZE when not. when loading a font, iterate until a
1110 font has been found that _really_ fits the height (reported and
1111 tested by Olivier Wittenberg).
1112 - set IUTF8 input flag, when defined (linux-2.6.5+).
1113 - only define _XOPEN_SOURCE on solaris.
1114 - autogenerate src/* dependency list.
1115 - fixed linespace option, which ought to work now (and is dependent
1116 on frills, not on its own configure option).
1117 - include pty.h, if available (cygwin).
1118 - removed W11 directory from dist, it wasn't used anyway.
1119 - initialize the locale much earlier.
1120 - fixed two tiny per-instance memory leaks.
1121
11224.7 Wed Dec 29 20:54:24 CET 2004
1123 - fix a bug in the event logic that could cause the terminal to be
1124 black on initial startup.
1125 - do NOT call XCloseIM, ever. This causes way to many crashes due to
1126 races in the protocol and within Xlib.
1127 - map iso-left-tab to the same sequence as shift-tab.
1128 - generate a unique escape sequence for many unknown keys, such as
1129 additional multimedia keys.
1130 - mask out high (non-unicode) bits on wide characters, to cope with
1131 implementations that store tag info in the high bits.
