164.9 Thu Feb 3 09:52:03 CET 2005
17 - nuke out utmp entries completely. Should be fixed in
18 original rxvt, too. (reported by James Michael Fultz).
19 - resizes wil now correctly refresh the displayed text when
20 -pixmap is active.
21 - new option/resource imFont.
22 - document --tripleclickwords/-tcw.
23 - select logical instead of physical lines when doing a triple-click.
24 - reordered help listing to group similar options together.
25 - handle SIGINT the same way as SIGTERM (reported by Joël Riou).
26 - fix a bug introduced while applying the keyboard patch
27 (WU Fengguang).
28 - document all window-op sequences (rxvt.7.) and more keysym
29 examples (rxvt.1).
30 - removed src/test completely.
31 - renamed keysym 'proto:'-prefix to 'command:'.
32
334.8 Tue Jan 18 02:23:57 CET 2005
34 - added a patch by WU Fengguang that makes the keyboard
35 highly configurable (e.g. locale changes, custom escape
36 sequences, and more). See keysym resource in rxvt(1).
37 - remove default key sequence for unknown keys again, as this
38 can be achieved by customizing the keyboard now.
39 - fix some freeing problems when destroying the rxvt_display,
40 resulting in segfaults.
41 - don't crash when the saved cursor position doesn't fit on the
42 screen (wrong assert in original rxvt, reported by ikaro).
43 - fix signed/unsigned bugs on wc<->mb conversions.
44 - reset slipwheel scrolling speed when reaching the top or bottom
45 (Mikael Magnusson).
46 - for core fonts, use ascent + descent when a font is loaded,
47 and PIXEL_SIZE when not. when loading a font, iterate until a
48 font has been found that _really_ fits the height (reported and
49 tested by Roch).
50 - set IUTF8 input flag, when defined (linux-2.6.5+).
51 - only define _XOPEN_SOURCE on solaris.
52 - autogenerate src/* dependency list.
53 - fixed linespace option, which ought to work now (and is dependent
54 on frills, not on it's own configure option).
55 - include pty.h, if available (cygwin).
56 - removed W11 directory from dist, it wasn't used anyway.
57 - initialize the locale much earlier.
58 - fixed two tiny per-instance memory leaks.
59
604.7 Wed Dec 29 20:54:24 CET 2004
61 - fix a bug in the event logic that could cause the temrinal to be
62 black on initial startup.
63 - do NOT call XCloseIM, ever. This causes way to many crashes due to
64 races in the protocol and within Xlib.
65 - map iso-left-tab to the same sequence as shift-tab.
66 - generate a unique escape sequence for many unknown keys, such as
67 additional multimedia keys.
68 - mask out high (non-unicode) bits on wide characters, to cope with
69 implementations that store tag info in the high bits.
70
714.6 Thu Dec 16 07:54:23 CET 2004
72 - try very hard not to exhaust the kernel tty buffers, even
73 if it slows down large pastes and is only cosmetic.
74 - streamline atom and xft color allocation to reduce startup
75 time (12.8s -> 7.8s on my dsl). Still, doing it with only 2-3
76 turnarounds would be much faster, but impossible to implement(?).
77 - implement underlineColor resource when ENABLE_FRILLS.
78 - iom left it's signal pipe handle open in the child
79 process. Fortunately not security-relevant as the pipe data gets
80 ignored.
81 - do not use XSETROOTPMAP_ID anymore, support ESETROOT_PMAP_ID
82 instead.
83 - fix a crash in rxvtd when the last window was being closed
84 (reported by hednod).
85 - fix an unlikely memory leak.
86 - fix atom name enumeration.
87
884.5 Mon Dec 13 07:47:16 CET 2004
89 - fix an extremely nasty bug in utf8-conversion. upgrade is advised.
90 - completely re-wrote selection pasting. This should fix garbled
91 incomplete characters at 32k boundaries and too-short INCR
92 selections, and more. Increases memory requirements considerably
93 for large selections, but that seems unavoidable.
94
954.4 Sun Dec 12 22:10:06 CET 2004
96 - rewrote handling of default-char width.
97 - implement _NET_WM_NAME et al., and also use UTF8_STRING
98 for the xterm property esc. sequence. Allows i18n window
99 titles etc.
100 - SMART_WINDOW_TITLE removed, pls. complain if you need this.
101 - added GBK encoding (formidable patch by WU Fengguang).
102 - fixed a bug in the transparency code.
103 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
104 - force slower (but more responsive) transparency update.
105 - fix off-by-one bug with wide characters at the end of a line,
106 which got partially overwritten by spaces.
107 - as xlib is completely broken with respect to utf-8 handling
108 and nobody is going to fix it, that part has been re-implemented.
109 should fix most paste problems between apps that use UTF8 encoding
110 and rxvt running in a lesser-supported locale (thanks to Robin Redeker
111 for writing utf8towcs). Only enabled with ENABLE_FRILLS.
112 - darwin compile fix by Ethan Blanton.
113 - fix the colour of the underline, which was rather random before.
114
1154.3 Sat Dec 4 04:58:37 CET 2004
116 - unapply the "emulated graphical chars. respect wcwidth" patch.
117 obviously in locales not having these characters they should
118 still have a width. Solve it correctly by not relying on wcwidth.
119 Note to self: do not ever apply patches without checking them
120 thoroughly.
121 - updated .spec file, it's included in the release tarball
122 now, too.
123
1244.2 Wed Dec 1 03:30:22 CET 2004
125 - make emulated graphical characters respect wcwidth (Kuang-che Wu).
126 - remove debugging code that caused major slowdowns
127 on high-latency networks.
128 - wide characters shift the correct number of characters
129 in insert mode now. Reported by Gunnar Ritter.
130 - doc/rxvt-unicode.spec file contributed by Ville Herva.
131 - make storage of tab movements as characters optional
132 on the -ptab option and pastableTabs: resource. On request
133 by Gunnar Ritter.
134 - fix a bug where :size= argument for xft fonts was ignored
135 or used incorrectly. Reported by Ville Herva.
136
1374.1 Sun Nov 21 21:10:19 CET 2004
138 - save and restore cursor position in secondary screen regardless of
139 -ssc/-ssr settings.
140 - fix some 64-bit bugs that lead to crashes with certain other
141 programs like vncviewer (original rxvt also affected).
142 - added doc/podtbl to the dist tarball.
143 - add compile fix for darwin.
144 - configure fix for transparency without tinting.
145 - changed CN to ZH _really_ everywhere.
146 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
147
1484.0 Mon Sep 13 01:10:26 CEST 2004
149 - turn off autohinting for some badly-hinted fallback fonts.
150 - mnaapge tpyo crorcetoins by Bastian Kleineidam.
151 - implemented rectangular selections (button+meta), experimental.
152 - implement race-free signal handling in iom.C.
153 - use iom.C signal handling to avoid races in signal handling.
154 - use default action on SIGINT and SIGQUIT, instead of terminating.
155 - "the return of the 100 times per second refresh bug".
156 ... terminated by a fix.
157 - new supported preeeditType "None".
158 - added FAQ about possible compose key problems.
159 - changed CN to ZH everywhere (sorry for the confusion).
160 - move XFilterEvent up, as some input method seem to want events
161 for windows not requesting XIM. Please report if this change
162 causes any harm (specially with pointerblanking)
163 (patch by Kuang-che Wu).
164 - send the input method spot position on every refresh, not just
165 when rxvt thinks it should (which was not often enough...).
166 - fix double-wide combining characters (it might look a bit ugly,
167 though, but common cases are handled by normalization anyways).
168 - moved FAQ to rxvt(7), also made a copy into README.FAQ.
169 - fix a bug(?) in the XIM destroy callback.
170 - be more conservative when trying to register new input methods,
171 as Xlib races might make rxvt crash. When two or more
172 input methods are active, killing one probably still crashes rxvt
173 due to that bug :( Thanks a lot to Kuang-che Wu for immense help
174 in tracking this down.
175 - manpages (but not .txt and .html versions) will be patched (during
176 make install) with the correct program name and other info.
177
1783.9 Wed Aug 25 19:24:04 CEST 2004
179 - the change to unsigned int from unsigned short broke
180 many signed comparisons, resulting in failed assertions.
181
1823.8 Wed Aug 25 05:46:56 CEST 2004
183 - WARNING: TERM=rxvt-unicode is now *default* unless compiled
184 differently. A terminfo entry will automatically be compiled and
185 installed if tic is available.
186 - fixed some --disable switches that didn't work.
187 - tweaked src/features.h a bit.
188 - removed README.unicode.
189 - support select&paste of tab characters.
190 - fixed a segfault when trying to load nonexistant fonts (reported
191 by Eduard Bloch and Mikael Magnusson).
192 - fixed a long-standing rxvt bug in which rxvt failed to save
193 and restore the correct cursor position on the secondary screen.
194 - reworked rxvt-unicode terminfo to allow more efficient and less flickering
195 screen updates with curses.
196 - wide characters that are being halfway overwritten are now replaced
197 by spaces.
198 - urxvtc now transmits urxvt as default name, not urxvtc anymore
199 (likewise for other names chosen at configure time).
200 - disabled the automatic font lookup for unknown characters. xft
201 is just too slow for this to work.
202 - changed realbold code, implemented _real_ bold and italic support,
203 where _real_ means the symbiosis of what I want with what I can
204 implement. use --enable-styles.
205 - removed 256 color mode, but enable 88 colours in all modes
206 (88 to be compatible with 88 colour xterm which is widely
207 supported, and most programs assume a non-iso colourtable
208 for terminals with "odd" number of colours).
209 - added doc/etc/rxvt-unicode.terminfo which is a big overhaul
210 compared to the old rxvt terminfo.
211 - sped up xft rendering by 30% *iff* the font allows it (i.e. is
212 monospaced "enough") *and* matches the base font in width.
213 - implement positive and negative character-font caching, which
214 speeds up output immensely in case a character cannot be found
215 (only for non-bold right now).
216 - fix segfault in fading code on certain escape sequences.
217 - better default font size and style.
218 - rxvt-unicode is now much more picky about fonts not fitting
219 into the base font, but to offset this it will check each
220 single character against the base font extents and will only
221 use the characters fitting into the bounding box (+ some fudge).
222 - characters not fitting into the base boundary box will now often
223 be used anyways, but the following characters will be redrawn
224 more often to avoid pixel-droppings. This is like the original
225 rxvt pixel-dropping pass but it's much faster.
226 - scrollColor now affects plain scrollbar (Mikael Magnusson).
227 - fixed segfault in overlay code when height was larger than the
228 screen height.
229 - cursor no longer shines "through" the overlay.
230 - 7-bit ST marker detection was broken.
231 - scrollbar didn't come back sometimes when switching it
232 off/on using escape sequences (Mikael Magnusson).
233 - fix lots of colour problems with focus fading.
234 - $COLORFGBG was not set as documented.
235 - fix iso 14755 5.1 support when --enable-frills but --disable-iso14755.
236 - removed OSC 702.
237 - disabled MOUSE_REPORT_DOUBLECLICK by default, as programs seem to be
238 confused by it rather than using it.
239
2403.7 Tue Aug 17 04:22:25 CEST 2004
241 - new configure option --enable-iso14755.
242 - full iso 14755 conformance (at least I claim so :).
243 - extended the FAQ section in the manpage.
244 - fix OverTheSpot and OffTheSpot editing, which was broken since ages,
245 due to no fontset being available. The fontset used is a very rough
246 approximation to the rxvt font, though. This fixes the
247 "cannot create input context" in most cases.
248 - fix coordinates used for Over && OffTheSpot editing to fit directly
249 at the cursor (Over) or into the top line (Off).
250 - reset SIGHUP and SIGPIPE handlers to default values (they were
251 previously being ignored, causing programs not to exit on windoe
252 close).
253 - implemented simple overlays for feedback messages. believe it or
254 not, this was a major blocker in implementign tabbed termianls.
255 - fix compiling with --disable-frills (Adam Sampson).
256 - clarify bold docs in README.unicode (Adam Sampson).
257 - fix crash on window close when the input method or context
258 could not be created.
259 - add work around for badly written programs (see debian bug
260 #202497). This is _not_ a bug in rxvt but rather a race
261 condition in other programs (e.g. jed). It works by forcefully
262 sending SIGWINCH when rxvt sees the first output from the
263 command. This workaround isn't perfect (a slight cost to
264 wellbehaving programs who need to resize twice), but it usually
265 works.
266 - set correct pixel size in struct winsize.
267 - document more escape sequences.
268 - fix leftover macros and a few minor doc glitches in rxvt(1).
269 - work around bash's assumption that stepping into the middle of a
270 character is a sensible operation.
271 - fix some corner cases in autowrap handling.
272 - remove various useless make cruft, renamed files to better
273 reflect on their function, renamed many variables.
274 - fixed printscreen functionality, as noted by Jinesh Choksi.
275 - fix a problem where redraws of double-width characters sometimes
276 made the last character draw with normal width (especially visible
277 with selections).
278
2793.6 Sat Aug 14 04:55:26 CEST 2004
280 - SECURITY FIX: rxvtd kept open filehandles to other terminal
281 windows when spawning children. Actual risk is low (attacker
282 needs access to a local shell window).
283 - implemented parts 5.1 and 5.2 of ISO 14755 (i.e. hold down
284 Ctrl+Shift and enter hex numbers. space commits it as a unicode
285 character, or press and release Crl+Shift and then enter a
286 function key to get it's picture). patches for 5.3 (or 5.4 with
287 a little window or so) would be welcome.
288 - fixed large pastes (INCR selections, debian bug #191456).
289 - fixed longstanding bug in which rxvtd crashed when
290 a message was logged after startup (a rare case).
291 - got rid of yodl completely by converting to pod.
292 - integrated the FAQ into the manpage. In the future, more will be
293 added there.
294 - reference documentation is now installed as rxvt(7).
295 - rxvt(7) now contains README.configure, which is autogenerated.
296 - fix memory leak in insecure mode on certain display echos.
297 - report sequences now report empty strings in secure mode
298 instead of being ignored.
299 - enable some report sequences even in secure mode, such as colour
300 queries, as they are harmless(tm).
301 - rxvt-unicode will now try to find a matching xft font if it can't
302 find a matching font from the fallback list. It might look ugly,
303 but if a xft font with our character exists, rxvt will find it.
304 - moved FreeMono to the very back of the fallback list, as some
305 people complain it looks ugly. This is a no-win situation, though.
306 - fixed sourceforge bug 998970, reported against aterm:
307 "crash on -sl 0 on super small windows".
308 - decreased memory and code size when !--enable-transparency.
309 - SYNCCVS. backported changes done to rxvt, except for Color_ufbg,
310 which I think is better done through fading, and libW11, which
311 needs testing anyways.
312 - more complete compile options help output.
313 - Provide linear scaled colour cubes for 256 colour mode.
314 Pass them through as rgbi rather than rgb so that Xlib can
315 provide gamma (from per visual intensity lists) rather than
316 providing constant gamma ourselves. Noticed by and ideas from
317 Christopher Casey <realchriscasey@hotmail.com>
318 - minor doc fix.
