29
30 - fix a bug when parsing fontnames and another one
31 for empty keymaps which could result in crashes
32 (Kuang-che Wu).
33
345.0 Fri Feb 11 18:31:48 CET 2005
35 - document a race-free hack to start urxvtd.
36 - document all(?) environment variables used and set by rxvt.
37 - bring xgetdefault-style resource file ordering more in line with
38 Xt, and document it in rxvt(1).
39 - correctly use screen-dependent resources when --enable-xgetdefault,
40 and also fix some memory bugs (thanks to Thierry Reding for
41 his patience and time in tracking this down).
42 - bring own resource parsing more in line with X resource parsing,
43 most notably, don't remove double quotes.
44 - compile fix for freebsd (no ut_id) (Thierry Thomas).
45 - clean up utmp and pty on X I/O errors and signals (idea
46 by Joël Riou).
47 - "un"document -xrm, it never really worked, was only
48 available with --enable-xgetdefault, is not necessary
49 and is surprisingly hard to implement.
50 - shaved off some code segment size.
51 - various code cleanups.
52 - more keysym-mapping fixes.
53
544.9 Thu Feb 3 09:52:03 CET 2005
55 - nuke out utmp entries completely. Should be fixed in
56 original rxvt, too. (reported by James Michael Fultz).
57 - resizes wil now correctly refresh the displayed text when
58 -pixmap is active.
59 - new option/resource imFont.
60 - document --tripleclickwords/-tcw.
61 - select logical instead of physical lines when doing a triple-click.
62 - reordered help listing to group similar options together.
63 - handle SIGINT the same way as SIGTERM (reported by Joël Riou).
64 - fix a bug introduced while applying the keyboard patch
65 (WU Fengguang).
66 - document all window-op sequences (rxvt.7.) and more keysym
67 examples (rxvt.1).
68 - removed src/test completely.
69 - renamed keysym 'proto:'-prefix to 'command:'.
70
714.8 Tue Jan 18 02:23:57 CET 2005
72 - added a patch by WU Fengguang that makes the keyboard
73 highly configurable (e.g. locale changes, custom escape
74 sequences, and more). See keysym resource in rxvt(1).
75 - remove default key sequence for unknown keys again, as this
76 can be achieved by customizing the keyboard now.
77 - fix some freeing problems when destroying the rxvt_display,
78 resulting in segfaults.
79 - don't crash when the saved cursor position doesn't fit on the
80 screen (wrong assert in original rxvt, reported by ikaro).
81 - fix signed/unsigned bugs on wc<->mb conversions.
82 - reset slipwheel scrolling speed when reaching the top or bottom
83 (Mikael Magnusson).
84 - for core fonts, use ascent + descent when a font is loaded,
85 and PIXEL_SIZE when not. when loading a font, iterate until a
86 font has been found that _really_ fits the height (reported and
87 tested by Olivier Wittenberg).
88 - set IUTF8 input flag, when defined (linux-2.6.5+).
89 - only define _XOPEN_SOURCE on solaris.
90 - autogenerate src/* dependency list.
91 - fixed linespace option, which ought to work now (and is dependent
92 on frills, not on it's own configure option).
93 - include pty.h, if available (cygwin).
94 - removed W11 directory from dist, it wasn't used anyway.
95 - initialize the locale much earlier.
96 - fixed two tiny per-instance memory leaks.
97
984.7 Wed Dec 29 20:54:24 CET 2004
99 - fix a bug in the event logic that could cause the temrinal to be
100 black on initial startup.
101 - do NOT call XCloseIM, ever. This causes way to many crashes due to
102 races in the protocol and within Xlib.
103 - map iso-left-tab to the same sequence as shift-tab.
104 - generate a unique escape sequence for many unknown keys, such as
105 additional multimedia keys.
106 - mask out high (non-unicode) bits on wide characters, to cope with
107 implementations that store tag info in the high bits.
108
1094.6 Thu Dec 16 07:54:23 CET 2004
110 - try very hard not to exhaust the kernel tty buffers, even
111 if it slows down large pastes and is only cosmetic.
112 - streamline atom and xft color allocation to reduce startup
113 time (12.8s -> 7.8s on my dsl). Still, doing it with only 2-3
114 turnarounds would be much faster, but impossible to implement(?).
115 - implement underlineColor resource when ENABLE_FRILLS.
116 - iom left it's signal pipe handle open in the child
117 process. Fortunately not security-relevant as the pipe data gets
118 ignored.
119 - do not use XSETROOTPMAP_ID anymore, support ESETROOT_PMAP_ID
120 instead.
121 - fix a crash in rxvtd when the last window was being closed
122 (reported by hednod).
123 - fix an unlikely memory leak.
124 - fix atom name enumeration.
125
1264.5 Mon Dec 13 07:47:16 CET 2004
127 - fix an extremely nasty bug in utf8-conversion. upgrade is advised.
128 - completely re-wrote selection pasting. This should fix garbled
129 incomplete characters at 32k boundaries and too-short INCR
130 selections, and more. Increases memory requirements considerably
131 for large selections, but that seems unavoidable.
132
1334.4 Sun Dec 12 22:10:06 CET 2004
134 - rewrote handling of default-char width.
135 - implement _NET_WM_NAME et al., and also use UTF8_STRING
136 for the xterm property esc. sequence. Allows i18n window
137 titles etc.
138 - SMART_WINDOW_TITLE removed, pls. complain if you need this.
139 - added GBK encoding (formidable patch by WU Fengguang).
140 - fixed a bug in the transparency code.
141 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
142 - force slower (but more responsive) transparency update.
143 - fix off-by-one bug with wide characters at the end of a line,
144 which got partially overwritten by spaces.
145 - as xlib is completely broken with respect to utf-8 handling
146 and nobody is going to fix it, that part has been re-implemented.
147 should fix most paste problems between apps that use UTF8 encoding
148 and rxvt running in a lesser-supported locale (thanks to Robin Redeker
149 for writing utf8towcs). Only enabled with ENABLE_FRILLS.
150 - darwin compile fix by Ethan Blanton.
151 - fix the colour of the underline, which was rather random before.
152
1534.3 Sat Dec 4 04:58:37 CET 2004
154 - unapply the "emulated graphical chars. respect wcwidth" patch.
155 obviously in locales not having these characters they should
156 still have a width. Solve it correctly by not relying on wcwidth.
157 Note to self: do not ever apply patches without checking them
158 thoroughly.
159 - updated .spec file, it's included in the release tarball
160 now, too.
161
1624.2 Wed Dec 1 03:30:22 CET 2004
163 - make emulated graphical characters respect wcwidth (Kuang-che Wu).
164 - remove debugging code that caused major slowdowns
165 on high-latency networks.
166 - wide characters shift the correct number of characters
167 in insert mode now. Reported by Gunnar Ritter.
168 - doc/rxvt-unicode.spec file contributed by Ville Herva.
169 - make storage of tab movements as characters optional
170 on the -ptab option and pastableTabs: resource. On request
171 by Gunnar Ritter.
172 - fix a bug where :size= argument for xft fonts was ignored
173 or used incorrectly. Reported by Ville Herva.
174
1754.1 Sun Nov 21 21:10:19 CET 2004
176 - save and restore cursor position in secondary screen regardless of
177 -ssc/-ssr settings.
178 - fix some 64-bit bugs that lead to crashes with certain other
179 programs like vncviewer (original rxvt also affected).
180 - added doc/podtbl to the dist tarball.
181 - add compile fix for darwin.
182 - configure fix for transparency without tinting.
183 - changed CN to ZH _really_ everywhere.
184 - upgraded iom.[Ch].
185
1864.0 Mon Sep 13 01:10:26 CEST 2004
187 - turn off autohinting for some badly-hinted fallback fonts.
188 - mnaapge tpyo crorcetoins by Bastian Kleineidam.
189 - implemented rectangular selections (button+meta), experimental.
190 - implement race-free signal handling in iom.C.
191 - use iom.C signal handling to avoid races in signal handling.
192 - use default action on SIGINT and SIGQUIT, instead of terminating.
193 - "the return of the 100 times per second refresh bug".
194 ... terminated by a fix.
195 - new supported preeeditType "None".
196 - added FAQ about possible compose key problems.
197 - changed CN to ZH everywhere (sorry for the confusion).
198 - move XFilterEvent up, as some input method seem to want events
199 for windows not requesting XIM. Please report if this change
200 causes any harm (specially with pointerblanking)
201 (patch by Kuang-che Wu).
202 - send the input method spot position on every refresh, not just
203 when rxvt thinks it should (which was not often enough...).
204 - fix double-wide combining characters (it might look a bit ugly,
205 though, but common cases are handled by normalization anyways).
206 - moved FAQ to rxvt(7), also made a copy into README.FAQ.
207 - fix a bug(?) in the XIM destroy callback.
208 - be more conservative when trying to register new input methods,
209 as Xlib races might make rxvt crash. When two or more
210 input methods are active, killing one probably still crashes rxvt
211 due to that bug :( Thanks a lot to Kuang-che Wu for immense help
212 in tracking this down.
213 - manpages (but not .txt and .html versions) will be patched (during
214 make install) with the correct program name and other info.
215
2163.9 Wed Aug 25 19:24:04 CEST 2004
217 - the change to unsigned int from unsigned short broke
218 many signed comparisons, resulting in failed assertions.
219
2203.8 Wed Aug 25 05:46:56 CEST 2004
221 - WARNING: TERM=rxvt-unicode is now *default* unless compiled
222 differently. A terminfo entry will automatically be compiled and
223 installed if tic is available.
224 - fixed some --disable switches that didn't work.
225 - tweaked src/features.h a bit.
226 - removed README.unicode.
227 - support select&paste of tab characters.
228 - fixed a segfault when trying to load nonexistant fonts (reported
229 by Eduard Bloch and Mikael Magnusson).
230 - fixed a long-standing rxvt bug in which rxvt failed to save
231 and restore the correct cursor position on the secondary screen.
232 - reworked rxvt-unicode terminfo to allow more efficient and less flickering
233 screen updates with curses.
234 - wide characters that are being halfway overwritten are now replaced
235 by spaces.
236 - urxvtc now transmits urxvt as default name, not urxvtc anymore
237 (likewise for other names chosen at configure time).
238 - disabled the automatic font lookup for unknown characters. xft
239 is just too slow for this to work.
240 - changed realbold code, implemented _real_ bold and italic support,
241 where _real_ means the symbiosis of what I want with what I can
242 implement. use --enable-styles.
243 - removed 256 color mode, but enable 88 colours in all modes
244 (88 to be compatible with 88 colour xterm which is widely
245 supported, and most programs assume a non-iso colourtable
246 for terminals with "odd" number of colours).
247 - added doc/etc/rxvt-unicode.terminfo which is a big overhaul
248 compared to the old rxvt terminfo.
249 - sped up xft rendering by 30% *iff* the font allows it (i.e. is
250 monospaced "enough") *and* matches the base font in width.
251 - implement positive and negative character-font caching, which
252 speeds up output immensely in case a character cannot be found
253 (only for non-bold right now).
254 - fix segfault in fading code on certain escape sequences.
255 - better default font size and style.
256 - rxvt-unicode is now much more picky about fonts not fitting
257 into the base font, but to offset this it will check each
258 single character against the base font extents and will only
259 use the characters fitting into the bounding box (+ some fudge).
260 - characters not fitting into the base boundary box will now often
261 be used anyways, but the following characters will be redrawn
262 more often to avoid pixel-droppings. This is like the original
263 rxvt pixel-dropping pass but it's much faster.
264 - scrollColor now affects plain scrollbar (Mikael Magnusson).
265 - fixed segfault in overlay code when height was larger than the
266 screen height.
267 - cursor no longer shines "through" the overlay.
268 - 7-bit ST marker detection was broken.
269 - scrollbar didn't come back sometimes when switching it
270 off/on using escape sequences (Mikael Magnusson).
271 - fix lots of colour problems with focus fading.
272 - $COLORFGBG was not set as documented.
273 - fix iso 14755 5.1 support when --enable-frills but --disable-iso14755.
274 - removed OSC 702.
275 - disabled MOUSE_REPORT_DOUBLECLICK by default, as programs seem to be
276 confused by it rather than using it.
277
2783.7 Tue Aug 17 04:22:25 CEST 2004
279 - new configure option --enable-iso14755.
280 - full iso 14755 conformance (at least I claim so :).
281 - extended the FAQ section in the manpage.
282 - fix OverTheSpot and OffTheSpot editing, which was broken since ages,
283 due to no fontset being available. The fontset used is a very rough
284 approximation to the rxvt font, though. This fixes the
285 "cannot create input context" in most cases.
286 - fix coordinates used for Over && OffTheSpot editing to fit directly
287 at the cursor (Over) or into the top line (Off).
288 - reset SIGHUP and SIGPIPE handlers to default values (they were
289 previously being ignored, causing programs not to exit on windoe
290 close).
291 - implemented simple overlays for feedback messages. believe it or
292 not, this was a major blocker in implementign tabbed termianls.
293 - fix compiling with --disable-frills (Adam Sampson).
294 - clarify bold docs in README.unicode (Adam Sampson).
295 - fix crash on window close when the input method or context
296 could not be created.
297 - add work around for badly written programs (see debian bug
298 #202497). This is _not_ a bug in rxvt but rather a race
299 condition in other programs (e.g. jed). It works by forcefully
300 sending SIGWINCH when rxvt sees the first output from the
301 command. This workaround isn't perfect (a slight cost to
302 wellbehaving programs who need to resize twice), but it usually
303 works.
304 - set correct pixel size in struct winsize.
305 - document more escape sequences.
306 - fix leftover macros and a few minor doc glitches in rxvt(1).
307 - work around bash's assumption that stepping into the middle of a
308 character is a sensible operation.
309 - fix some corner cases in autowrap handling.
310 - remove various useless make cruft, renamed files to better
311 reflect on their function, renamed many variables.
312 - fixed printscreen functionality, as noted by Jinesh Choksi.
313 - fix a problem where redraws of double-width characters sometimes
314 made the last character draw with normal width (especially visible
315 with selections).
