1Lines marked with "xterm:" indicate either xterm features ported to rxvt 1TODO: reverse video black-on-black => rv
2or changed rxvt behaviour to make it more compatible to xterm (usually 2TODO: do font request caching, might help rxvtd on some machines
3xfree86's xterm). 3TODO: safer command: keymap processing.

15 - slow down the internal visual bell (delay by 20ms) and update
16 the terminfo flash code to use the same delay. This is
17 synchronous, so many bells might inhibit screen updates in other
18 windows.
19
205.7 Wed Jul 13 04:46:33 CEST 2005
21 - implement some useful (hopefully) options for rxvtd.
22 - separate and improved rxvtc(1) and rxvtd(1) manpages.
23 - fix a bug that caused segfaults on startup on systems that do
24 not support local unix connections, e.g cygwin. (btw, I didn't
25 even know about the -rootless and -multiwindow Cygwin/X modes).
26 - large amounts of text without control sequences or newlines
27 could almost freeze output. This has been fixed by adding extra
28 refreshes in these cases (also a problem in oriignal rxvt).
29
305.6 Sun Jun 26 22:11:13 CEST 2005
31 - R_SB_RXVT bitset value was 0, so rxvt scrollbar was initialised
32 every time resulting in display errors (original rxvt also affected).
33 Reported by Jasmin Buchert.
34 - font names are now considered to be utf-8 encoded (xft apperently
35 uses this convention. X Core fonts might not, but it should be rare).
36 Affects display in iso14755 box.
37 - rewrote the low-level xft drawing function ("xft backend" for the
38 hipper parts of the world) to hopefully cope better with proportional
39 chars mixed with fixed-width ones.
40 - rxvt is now much more careful (read: slower) with potentially
41 overlapping xft characters. It usually overshoots and redraws
42 more than required, but that's better than undershooting and
43 cutting pieces off of characters.
44 - rxvt is now more restrictive in what font heights it accepts for
45 fonts that will likely overshoot or undershoot lines.
46 - fix a cosmetic problem with the unfocused cursor on a wide character
47 at the end of the line (reported by Mikachu).
48 - wide characters not fitting into the end of the line will be
49 output in the next line (reported by Mikachu).
50 - added doc/solaris9.patch by Ewgenij Starostin.
51
525.5 Sat Apr 23 22:31:36 CEST 2005
53 - re-enabled modifer state matching as in 5.3, but implement
54 a new builtin: keysym style that simply reverts to the built-in
55 meaning of the given key.
56 - use scrollcolor for next scrollbar instead of hardcoded antiquewhite
57 (patch by Martin Edlman).
58
595.4 Mon Apr 18 00:33:31 CEST 2005
60 - match modifier state exactly in custom keyboard code.
61 this is necessary because it has no knowledge about
62 built-in mappings and so will overwrite them. the priority-code
63 will be re-enabled when this has changed, so watch out.
64 - cursor blinking now depends on frills.
65 - underline cursor mode (frills, -uc).
66 - implement special value (*g*) for pointerBlankDelay
67 to disble it.
68
695.3 Sun Mar 13 00:20:44 CET 2005
70 - fix a bug that allowed to overflow a buffer via a long
71 escape sequence, which is probably exploitable (fix by
72 Rob Holland / Yoann Vandoorselaere / Gentoo Audit Team).
73 - Custom key mappings no longer confuse mouse buttons
74 with modifiers.
75 - use XmbSetWMProperties instead of XSetWMProperties.
76 - properly update WM_LOCALE.
77 - implement _NET_WM_PING protocol.
78 - implemented escape sequences to move the scrollback buffer view
79 and clear the scrollback buffer.
80
815.2 Sun Feb 20 01:48:59 CET 2005
82 - new option -pty-fd that makes the terminal a slave
83 that uses an existing pty for I/O instead of starting
84 a command.
85 - implement enough of XEMBED to allow for correct focus.
86 - added doc/embed-tk, an embedding example in Perl/Tk,
87 and doc/rxvt-tabbed, a primitive tabbed shell implemented
88 in Perl/Gtk2.
89 - fix assertion failure ("crash") on mousewheel-scrolling
90 when the terminal height is small, by removing the assert.
91 (reported by Mikael Magnusson).
92 - SYNCCVS. backported bugfixes done to rxvt
93 (sourceforge bugs #1028739, #1028732), except for
94 pts/%s fix as it seems to collide with freebsd,
95 and sourceforge bug #954654, which is not neccessary.
96 - change terminfo file to not clobber G1 when using
97 line-drawing characters, as this seems to mess
98 with EUC-JP (it will clobber G0, but G0 practically
99 needs to be US-ASCII all the time).
100 - toggle default application keypad/cursor mode to help
101 some apps who fail to set the correct mode.
102 - check for WM_PROTOCOLS type in ClientMessage as to
103 not destroy the window for other types of messages.
104 - remove shared library (or any library) support - it is
105 of no use currently (and -embed is a better way to embed
106 rxvt-unicode).
107 - get rid of the intpro files.
108
1095.1 Tue Feb 15 17:13:27 CET 2005
110 - fix a bug when parsing fontnames and another one
111 for empty keymaps which could result in crashes
112 (Kuang-che Wu).
113 - new option: -embed (frills). somebody could write a simple
114 tk script to make a tab'able terminal now...
115 - only warn on X errors and _try_ to continue (frills).
116 - add COPYING back, which got lost somehow.
117 - after deciding that LSM is dead, remove all traces of it,
118 along with other, similar, cleanups.
119 - _try_ to react sensibly to some non-monotonic time changes.
120 - don't crash in urxvtc when getcwd fails (reported by Paco-Paco).
121 - tweak font searching algorithm a bit to be faster and more
122 compatible with older rxvt-unicode versions when multiple fonts
123 match (reported by Paco-Paco).
124 - urxvtd tries to stay in "/" whenever possible.
125
1265.0 Fri Feb 11 18:31:48 CET 2005
127 - document a race-free hack to start urxvtd.
128 - document all(?) environment variables used and set by rxvt.
129 - bring xgetdefault-style resource file ordering more in line with
130 Xt, and document it in rxvt(1).
131 - correctly use screen-dependent resources when --enable-xgetdefault,
132 and also fix some memory bugs (thanks to Thierry Reding for
133 his patience and time in tracking this down).
134 - bring own resource parsing more in line with X resource parsing,
135 most notably, don't remove double quotes.
136 - compile fix for freebsd (no ut_id) (Thierry Thomas).
137 - clean up utmp and pty on X I/O errors and signals (idea
138 by Joël Riou).
139 - "un"document -xrm, it never really worked, was only
140 available with --enable-xgetdefault, is not necessary
141 and is surprisingly hard to implement.
142 - shaved off some code segment size.
143 - various code cleanups.
144 - more keysym-mapping fixes.
145
1464.9 Thu Feb 3 09:52:03 CET 2005
147 - nuke out utmp entries completely. Should be fixed in
148 original rxvt, too. (reported by James Michael Fultz).
149 - resizes wil now correctly refresh the displayed text when
150 -pixmap is active.
151 - new option/resource imFont.
152 - document --tripleclickwords/-tcw.
153 - select logical instead of physical lines when doing a triple-click.
154 - reordered help listing to group similar options together.
155 - handle SIGINT the same way as SIGTERM (reported by Joël Riou).
156 - fix a bug introduced while applying the keyboard patch
157 (WU Fengguang).
158 - document all window-op sequences (rxvt.7.) and more keysym
159 examples (rxvt.1).
160 - removed src/test completely.
161 - renamed keysym 'proto:'-prefix to 'command:'.
162
1634.8 Tue Jan 18 02:23:57 CET 2005
164 - added a patch by WU Fengguang that makes the keyboard
165 highly configurable (e.g. locale changes, custom escape
166 sequences, and more). See keysym resource in rxvt(1).
167 - remove default key sequence for unknown keys again, as this
168 can be achieved by customizing the keyboard now.
169 - fix some freeing problems when destroying the rxvt_display,
170 resulting in segfaults.
171 - don't crash when the saved cursor position doesn't fit on the
172 screen (wrong assert in original rxvt, reported by ikaro).
173 - fix signed/unsigned bugs on wc<->mb conversions.
174 - reset slipwheel scrolling speed when reaching the top or bottom
175 (Mikael Magnusson).
176 - for core fonts, use ascent + descent when a font is loaded,
177 and PIXEL_SIZE when not. when loading a font, iterate until a
178 font has been found that _really_ fits the height (reported and
179 tested by Olivier Wittenberg).
180 - set IUTF8 input flag, when defined (linux-2.6.5+).
181 - only define _XOPEN_SOURCE on solaris.
182 - autogenerate src/* dependency list.
183 - fixed linespace option, which ought to work now (and is dependent
184 on frills, not on it's own configure option).
185 - include pty.h, if available (cygwin).
186 - removed W11 directory from dist, it wasn't used anyway.
187 - initialize the locale much earlier.
188 - fixed two tiny per-instance memory leaks.
189
1904.7 Wed Dec 29 20:54:24 CET 2004
191 - fix a bug in the event logic that could cause the temrinal to be
192 black on initial startup.
193 - do NOT call XCloseIM, ever. This causes way to many crashes due to
194 races in the protocol and within Xlib.
195 - map iso-left-tab to the same sequence as shift-tab.
196 - generate a unique escape sequence for many unknown keys, such as
197 additional multimedia keys.
198 - mask out high (non-unicode) bits on wide characters, to cope with
199 implementations that store tag info in the high bits.
