136.1 18 - don't let iso14755 or mouse reporting get into the way of perl
19 (could lead to global grabs never being cleared).
20 - experimental OnTheSpot editing support (-pe xim-onthespot).
21 - moved Shift-Button2 paste combination to Meta-Button2.
22 - removed (unused) arabic presentation form composing sequences.
23 - reduced number of server turnarounds at startup by allocating
24 atoms only once per display.
25 - changed version sos (ESC [ > c) response to be more compatible with
26 xterm.
27
287.2 Sun Jan 22 21:58:16 CET 2006
29 - bugfix: urxvt (not urxvtd) did not correctly handle multiple
30 environments necessary, which resulted in segfaults within
31 getenv (reproducable: urxvt -fn 9x15, open a menu once,
32 ctrl-shift-672c).
33 - bugfix: the selection speedup in in 7.1 unfortunately caused
34 non-ascii characters to enlarge/move the selection.
35 - bugfix: resizing sometimes leaked lines from the secondary to
36 the primary screen.
37 - bugfix: reducing window size while large amounts of text were output
38 could lead to an assertion failure.
39 - added "tabbed" extension that provides a crude tabbed terminal.
40 - added "readline" extension that allows cursor positioning
41 via mouse clicks.
42 - now it is possible to insert the value of the CLIPBOARD selection
43 with shift - mouse button 2.
44 - fixed the automove-background extension to ignore coordinates
45 in non-synthetic events.
46 - created a separate libpty for portable and secure
47 pty/tty/utmp/wtmp/lastlog handling, and include it in rxvt-unicode.
48 - the non-terminfo visual bell now works asynchronously, so
49 continuous ASCI BELs in one terminal do no longer monopolise the
50 whole urxvt[d] process.
51 - support some *BSD makes (for the time being, gnu make is a safe bet).
52 - work around bugs in FreeBSD's gcc.
53 - implemented some *BSD fixes in configure.
54 - removed support for obsolete offix dnd protocol.
55
567.1 Thu Jan 19 20:25:34 CET 2006
57 - setuid/setgid operation is now _encouraged_: security has been
58 improved by moving privileged operations into a separate process
59 and permanently dropping privileges within the terminal. This
60 makes it possible to remove security checks from the perl code
61 and gives a much safer feeling when urxvt needs to run with
62 special privileges.
63 - perl taint checking disabled, as urxvt no longer runs setuid/setgid
64 itself.
65 - new perl extension automove-background that can be used to get
66 the same effect as pseudo-transparency with any pixmap.
67 - new perl extension example: perl/selection-pastebin, can be used to
68 e.g. upload the selection to a webserver and generate a url, or
69 similar stuff.
70 - use the scrollback buffer even when the scroll region doesn't
71 span the whole screen, as long as it starts at row 0. Helps
72 for programs displaying a status line at the bottom.
73 - selection popup now shows selection in dec/hex/oct.
74 - perl/selection: matching on unicode characters in the selection
75 code was O(n²), which equals infinity in some degenerate cases
76 :-> Matching is now done on UTF-8, which makes it almost instant.
77 - perl/selection, perl/selection-autotransform: regexes are now
78 being interpreted in the locale urxvt was started.
79 - implemented override-redirect option and enabled it on menus,
80 as kwin puts our windows behind the terminal (what a shoddy wm).
81 - fixed struct utmp check in configure for OpenBSD.
82 - complete overhaul of the pty/utmp management stuff and configure
83 (Emanuele Giaquinta).
84 - add tsl/fsl and related capabilities to the terminfo description,
85 to set the window title.
86 - swap the environment in some more cases. This hopefully fixes
87 some segfaults that might be caused by xft asking for env variables
88 at the wrong time.
89 - removed src/strings.C and src/menubar.C. No menubar support
90 anymore.
91 - removed all traces of SMOOTH_REFRESH.
92 - nuked QNX support.
93 - made some fixes to xpm offset and scaling code.
94 - perl-overlays and refresh hooks were not applied in correct order.
95 - changed coordinate-system of view_start/nsaved to be top to bottom.
96 - iom extended to support listening for child exits.
97
987.0 Fri Jan 13 14:02:18 CET 2006
99 - added sections for DISTRIBUTION MAINTAINERS and about
100 SETUID/SETGID to the FAQ.
101 - selection, searchable-scrollback, selection-popup and
102 option-popup extensions enabled by default.
103 - increased xft drawing speed for problematic fonts. The effect
104 will likely be small as 99% of the xft slowness is server-related.
105 - perl: much increased functionality, better overlays, popup support
106 and much much more.
107 - perl: urxvt::line now can set via ->t and ->r.
108 - perl: changed interpretation of --perl-ext-common and -pe.
109 - perl: finally implemented --perl-eval.
110 - perl: non-blocking anyevent support.
111 - perl: run tainted and ignore perl-eval/perl-lib if started
112 setuid/setgid.
113 - free the resource database: this plugs a massive memory leak. As a
114 side effect, it also gets rid of XGetDefault calls.
115 - free one of the cursors, fixes a small memory leak.
116 - built-in (as opposed to terminfos) visual bell was broken/too fast.
117 - applied minor cleanups by Ladislav Michnovic.
118 - applied pty handling cleanups and improvements (Emanuele Giaquinta).
119 - mark-urls launch-on-click by jepler.
120 - removed "small" resource parsing function, as it wasn't really
121 compatible, and not really small either.
122 - removed PATH_ENV and PATH file search support.
123 - removed support for locale-specific app-defaults file.
124 - fixed a bug where out-of-bounds colour sequences could lead
125 to crashes.
126 - limit colour changing to the standard 88 palette instead of all
127 colours.
128 - XTerm_Color01 sequence returned wrong results in query mode.
129 - iom.C now checks against destructed io_manager when unregistering.
130
1316.3 Wed Jan 4 22:37:10 CET 2006
132 - SECURITY FIX: on systems using openpty, permissions were
133 not correctly updated on the tty device and were left as
134 world-readable and world-writable (likely in original rxvt,
135 too), and were not restored properly. Affected are only
136 systems where non-unix ptys were used (such as most BSDs, not
137 GNU/Linux). (found, patched and debugged by Ryan Beasley).
138 - meta8 support was forcefully enabled in most configurations.
139 restored configurability of this (useless) feature (reported
140 by Mikachu).
141 - optionally embed a perl interpreter, which can be used for more
142 intelligent/customized selection support, visual feedback,
143 menus, tabs etc. See the the urxvtperl manpage, the -pe option,
144 perl*-resources and keysym resources. Not everything is there yet.
145 - try to be more clever about differing font sizes and their ascent.
146 Not guarenteed to work, but works better in most cases now.
147 - fix directory permissions on install.
148 - implemented option to disable built-in line drawing characters
149 and fall back to the font ones (patch by Martin Pohlack).
150 - disabled sched_yield support: the linux version is just too useless
151 (it schedules nice'd processes before the own one for extended
152 periods). Too bad, it could reduce system time by a factor of 5 here.
153
1546.2 Mon Jan 2 16:03:01 CET 2006
155 - implemented intensityStyles option which enables/disables bold/blink
156 selecting high intensity foreground/background colours, suggested by
157 Chuck Blake.
158 - move iso14755 character feedback box out of the way if it would
159 obscure the mouse cursor position.
160 - replaced callback.h by a fixed version from gvpe that correctly
161 returns the callback result (affects new -pty-fd semantics in urxvtc
162 on a few architectures). Reported by darix.
163 - include one trailing space in rectangular selections to indicate
164 the inserted newline (yeah, weird, but visually more pleasing).
165 - try to use sched_yield to (drastically) improve terminal data
166 transfer efficiency.
167 - further minor cleanups.
