        - implement automatic reloading on SIGUSR1, as per suggestions
          by Trevor Cordes.

        - ctrl-d errornously worked like ctrl-shift-d (cost 50gb of data).
        - work around glib/gtk's filename corruption bugs when saving thumbnails
